Did SVB Cheat Earl on the Break in TAR 22?

every dog has his day :) every once and a while a cinderella comes through for the win. I wonder if he would still be considered one of the best of all time if he had to play all his tourneys on foreign soil. I wonder how many he would have won if they were all in the filipines or in eruope, efren came across the ocean and laid a woopping his entire career in all countries into his 50`s. if you want to be civil we can talk or i will give an eye for an eye or we could drop this whole thing. Im ok with all three :)

I guess there is no point in debating with a guy who knows nothing about pool...the world will agree that earl is nuts..but you sir stand alone thinking he is a chump and or was never a world class player..lets see if another champion player runs 10 racks in a tournament match like earl the chump did.

i never said he wasn't world class back in the day :) he just hasn't been since he turned 40 ish and was unable to figure out how to stay world class is all.

if you think earl has no game anymore just ask which top pros want to spot earl and for comments on earls cue just look at the top pinoy players that look at how long there cues are compared to them

You know, that makes so much sense.

The thing about Corey Deuel that I admired was his ability to conquer the break on any rack and any equipment. That is skill, IMO. Heck, Corey could run a rack with the mechanical bridge. The kid's so talented.

What always bothered me, though, was the rack riggers. To me, when they rig a rack, that is no different than playing cards with a marked deck.

Big difference between perfecting the break and rigging a rack.

In this regard, the perfect rack would cure rack rigging, and now it seems some players are reverting back to wanting a crooked rack or a rack with imperfections. Go figure! :grin-square:

Its difficult to make the wing ball with a perfect rack.

you think he will play svb straight up even without his conditions? there short and i have nothing against longer cue's?

Earl feels like SVB cheated him on the break the last 2 days of the match? What do you guys think about that?

Was there a stipulation that they were going to break the balls hard? What about pattern racking?

What really pissed Earl off about the way SVB was breaking?

I wouldn't say anyone was cheating. Shane was adapting trying to make the 1 in the side or corner. The biggest problem I saw with the rack was when Earl was breaking, did u see how many times the 9 shot str8 at the bottom (our right) corner? I know it wasn't a win but its still a ball OTB and not saying he was doing it on purpose, just saying they weren't froze up and I did see it make Shane a lil unhappy a few times.

:) I would have to get table climbing permission to see if they were all froze way up there. As Boston Shorty might say " I ain't no 5 foot 8 giant!"

"ha, biggest clown on this site talking shit all the time about how good he is and how much he knows and trashing instructors info and it turns out from his videos, he is no better than a tuesday night league player!"

In 15 years on the internet, I have, never once, claimed to be any kind of player. In fact, I usually say something like, "I'm nobody" or "I'm just a slightly above average player" and choose to write about my struggles with the game. Some of you, over the years, have found resonance with those stories.

In my most recent trip report, after the 2011 US 1Pocket Open in Vegas, http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=232135 I wrote, "I will fully confess something right now: I type a much better game than I actually play. I am an amateur player who plays OK, but who is subject to go off the air at any moment, not so much because of any particular external pressure -- but because the game requires so much precision that I have found over the years that any small variation in my PSR can be disastrous."

That is how I have always portrayed myself.

The AZ Clown Car passengers, like Champ, like to say otherwise. Just wanted to make that point.

Your friend can pm you this one also:

I see someone has one leg in his "man pants" finally! now all you have to do is take people off ignore or just don't comment on there posts while you have them on ignore, that's very child like! how you decided to try and sabotage cte/pro1 with that review you left on the main board was lower than low! You should man up and offer an apology to this whole board and especially Stan! I personally think your type of character wont realize what you did and continue to do. I may sound like an ass sometimes but i will admit it, your problem is you have no idea your an ass and hurting people! ask your wife or your friends this!

Todays game....

IMHO theres nothing left but for any type of game to evolve in it's lifetime due to players who have "figured out" something to help them out in the game. Till the WPA collectively agrees on the stipulations on breaking ( or any other aspect of the game ) needs to be changed due to unfair advantage then we will continue to see players play differently from others to give them the leg up on the the game. Like the rest of us, Earl must learn to change/adapt with the times and how the game and it's players are evolving. He is still a phenomenal player in all aspects except how he handles the mental part of the game. Personally I have watched him play from when I was a kid till now and he still catches gears that the up and coming elite have yet to experience. Lastly we all know Earl's mental state, sometimes he's all there but we all know in the end he gets the better of himself and therefore reacts in the way we are all too familiar with. The only thing I keep thinking about is WHAT IF..what if earl had the mental stability and patience like many of the great ambassadors of this game we all love so dear...that would be something else...scary for the rest..but no doubt something to marvel at...geez..what if...

This is ridiculous! You guys on this board think earl is a pool god. He won all his championships when it was mostly american players playing and the fields are half as strong as they are now. He is as good as he always was now but the competition has gotten a lot better. He has the prettiest game/stroke to watch but that's not good enough to win now days, him and archer are now second tier players..ijs

Um, Earl is a pool god. Gods can be petulant. The last World Championship he won was in 2002 against Francisco Bustamante in a full field of international champions.

The line is VERY short when it comes to people willing to get in the box with Earl for money. If you think he is second tier then we can bet serious money on Every match Earl plays this coming year.

Second tier? That's a laugh. NO matter what Earl is and always will be first tier as a player.

As a person.......well he has issues that need to be worked out.

Actually, Efren didn't win much on the pro tour in the USA in the mid-80s through the 90s. He didn't really start winning until the early years of the DCC One Pocket where he really shined.

Strickland won three World Championships on foreign soil, back-to-back which no one has ever done in 9 ball in Germany and in England in 2002 against Bustamante over a field that was every bit as strong as any today.

The man is world class first tier on the pool table and there isn't a professional alive that says otherwise. No one likes to see Earl's name on the draw opposite theirs. And not just because of the attitude. They don't want to see it because Earl is STILL a phenonmenal player.

He won the Derby City one pocket this past year which is a game he hardly plays.

As a player Earl still has ALL the skills he ever had. He is just giving the world a spot with his mental baggage and all the physical baggage he brings to a match.
