Lufkin stopped making precision measurement tools in 1966 !

Dave

and would you like Browne&Sharp to be next ?

Says something about the quality of my Lufkin mics that they can still pass a pin check 40 years later - how many communist calipers are you going to use in that time ?

> Browne and Sharpe hasn't made anything but CMM machines for at least 5-10 years now. Even their excelllent mikes and dial calipers have been made by someone else for quite a while.

My gage block set was made by them back in the 70's.

Lufkin mikes are indeed excellent,I got a 0-1" vernier in my grandfather's stuff and it's on par with Starrett or Mitutoyo all day long. Tommy

I could care less if they go or stay. If they can't compete then they need to be gone. They won't be the first who no longer exist because they tried to keep high quality but at a much higher cost. Everybody don't need a Rolls Royce, or a Lamborghini. A Ford will suffice. I have a Brown and Sharp dial indicator. I also have 3 Chinese ones. They read the same and the only difference is that the B/S face is yellowed so that it's a little harder to see and it costs around 250.00 compared to the 10.00 Chinese. I love quality tools. I love their feel in my hands however when purchasing tools I must decide what is best for me. What I can afford and certainly works good enough or something costing 20 times the price and gives me no better discernible service. Accuracy down to .00001 is not needed anywhere in cue building.

If you want to argue the merits of fair trade or the political theocracy of different economies then that's fine but this is not the forum for it. That is what the non-pool related forum is for.

If they can no longer compete then they will go away.

My Lufkin depth mic (0-3", 4" base) works like a charm, as do my B&S mics, my Starret mics, my Moore&Wright mics, and my cheap chinese mics (one is going on towards 20 years old now). If I had to say which ones work better I'd be at a loss ... they all measure accurately and precisely and I have confidence in them all.
