Digitalpool brackets with buyback?

Yeah, that's pretty good. With digital pool the way it is "now" though that would be a lot of work to do several brackets. Plus, right now with digital pool everyone has the link and can check on their phone where to see the bracket. That would all become confusing if there were now multiple links.
Hey, I was just browsing AZ for the first time in a while and came across this thread. You can actually use an Event to group multiple brackets together and share that link with the players. Example here - https://digitalpool.com/events/the-rack-one-pocket-classic-2024. I may be able to implement a "buy back" option that would automatically place players in any available BYE spots as they lose (if they opt to use it). One question I have though is would it make sense to wait until all players have finished the first round before accepting any buy backs and maybe do a random draw for the remaining spots if there are not very many? It seems to favor the players who get to play the early matches because if they lose then they would get the first opportunity to buy back while other players that have to play last may never get that chance.

I also like Bob Jewitt's idea of smaller bracket groups that feed into a final single elim bracket. We have this on our roadmap and it's a popular format in many International events. Rather than having one giant bracket, they split the field into smaller groups of single or double elim brackets that feed into a final stage bracket.

Usually the current events have a known field before the start and there are no buybacks.

If you do allow buybacks into small qualifiers, it is better to allow rebuys as soon as the player loses a match. The sooner he is placed into a group, the sooner he can plan the rest of his day. And for tournament staff, I think it is easier to spread out the signups so you don't have to deal with them in a lump. Also, you can allow players to arrive late and enter a later group.

Hi, thanks greatly for looking to incorporate this bracket format.

IMO, the buy back would never be fair, because not every player would have the opportunity to buy back. That would be in essence a double elimination format. This is a single elimination format where the bracket is a few entries short of a full bracket. The buy backs are simply to fill the bracket, and give "some" players a chance to play again.

With that in mind, I'd strongly vote that its first come, first served, on either an early first round loser, or a late entry that walks in the door. The goal is to keep the tournament moving, not make it perfectly fair for all the herded cats, which is never possible anyway.

Thanks!
