DigitalPool

That would be a weight sensor in the ball tray and players would have to manually indicate when the inning is over.
So add more equipment and software to be at the same problem point - data has to be entered.

Any thoughts on Digitalpool's progress since 2021? Things they're doing well? Things that could be improved?
I find it nearly unusable. Much, much too slow for many functions.

It was completely broken at the UK Open and that's probably why Matchroom has dropped them. Like 30 seconds to see any update by which time you are trying to test your internet connections and look for a better wifi when the problem is with DigitalPool.

In their current state, I would recommend that any major tournament look for a different bracket supplier.

There were also major problems at the 14.1 at QMaster and the developers apparently had no interest in fixing them.

Its doubtful competent business programmers will be interested in making bracket software.

Its unlikely the pool community has anyone that can program for them either.

Does anyone have connections to the open source community and starting some type of free software foundation program for billiards?

I could scratch a demo up in php using html and mysql but it will look primitive. Its the primary example in programming books.

In NPR I met a few programmers. Are any in the Main Forum?

I wonder if it has problems with large tournaments? It doesn’t seem to struggle with 16 player or 32 player events.

In cyber related news, there are some countries that support DDOS attacks.

DDOS attacks on businesses with no cyber response teams are the reason, online services appear slow.

However most users would not know to report it. Businesses would only know if they are performing regular cyber audits.

In America cyber threats are becoming recognized by the federal government. Other countries like Ukraine have different cyber policies, or had different policies.

In WPA publication does it state that no organizations will conduct cyber attacks on other organizations? If it does not, then expect attacks.

Strikes again. Had the starting time for girls final at 8:00 am cst last night. Get up turn on computer now it shows 10:00 am cst.

The most glaring UI issue is that this section is fixed, which makes it useless on mobile devices. Fix it so that this section scrolls along with the rest of the page, which is how it is configured on every other module (Overview, Live Scores, Matches, Schedule, and so on).

How this has not been noticed and addressed is beyond my comprehension.

Agree. It takes up so much real estate and is of zero value.

there's a promising open source project, but it's still limited in its functionality, and lacks a few general features. also it's been programmed with a special tournament setup in mind, which makes it hard to adapt to setups in pool, like Round Robin to Single Elim or Double Elim to Single Elim.

Just to bring some balance to the thread, I do think the digital pool brackets on a whole are a good product. They allow players to input the score at the table. They allow us to track pro tournaments live. They text you your match info so the TD does not need to hunt you down.

Yes, the iPad buttons are slow. Yes, the UX needs some polish.

Still, we are much better off with them than without them.

I believe they are heading in the right direction also, but there are definitely some UX issues that need to be addressed. They appear to be using the react/MUI framework for the UX, which is probably next to impossible to debug unless you are proficient with using or developing with it. Most of the issues are minor though. Things like the breadcrumb link sending you back to the tournaments page instead of the event page that you were previously on.

One thing that drives me crazy is probably not digitalpool's fault. Half the time tournaments never bother with entering who won the final match.

Would creating fan live scoring software infringe on any privacy rights of a tournament?

Its common users post scores live in forum, why not have a forum app for it? Imagine live scoring wiki.

You can hide that very easily, and even make the bracket full screen if you want.

I see now. There are more buttons on top of the plus minus buttons. I can’t access them on my phone. They are completely hidden. Scrolling won’t show them at all.

also, a huge amount of screen space lost to displaying the tournament title... what a waste
The display issues are irritating but I find the slowness issues much, much worse. 30 seconds for info to load (over a fast connection) and several seconds for a score to update when input. The largest problem is the developers seem to think these are not problems.
