Discord email

I received an email from a site called Discord. They informed me I had to change my username from Quesports to something else.

I have no clue who they are or how they got my email and username associated with AZ.

I have notified AZ thru the contact link.

Anyone else have this issue??

i would contact discord and ask them why
a quick search of discord seems like it is a group chat type of app
if some entity has trademarked quesports then i could see them asking you to change your username or even charge you with damages for using their name
i am not an attorney and this is purely my opinion
which could be wrong

Discord made people redo their user names recently, are you certain they wanted your azb name changed and are you certain you never signed up for discord using that name in the past?

It's one of the largest chat applications, started out for gaming but now it's used for all kinds of things.

kinda what i was thinking. think they did some big search looking for their name being used and then went after them?? sounds kinda 'big brotherish' if so.

This means that your chosen username is already in use, so they appended a #0000 (hashtag and random numbers) to the end of your chosen username to make it unique.

They are asking that everyone who has this #0000 at the end of their username to choose a new, unique username so they can discard the #0000.

Simply change your username so that its unique, just like every forum or email you've ever signed up for.

You have either signed up for discord in the past, or someone signed up using your email. I've received this email as well and need to change my username.

Great info. I'm clueless about this stuff. Glad someone knows.

Here is a copy of what I received and its getting worse quickly. I received an email from another odd source claiming I had ordered an anti virus program from Amazon for $399.69 per year. Amazon shows no purechase activity nor does my CC account.

Hello Quesports,
We’re asking everyone to choose a unique username instead of using discriminators in their username (username#0000). Starting March 4, 2024, Discord will begin assigning usernames to users who have not chosen one themselves. You are receiving this email because you have not chosen a new username.
This is a notice that if you do not update your username by March 4, 2024, Discord will assign a new, unique username to your account. We will try to assign you a unique username that is similar to your current username.
You can update your username now by following these instructions:
On Desktop/Browser
  1. Select the cog wheel in the bottom left to open User Settings
  2. Click Get Started

On Mobile
  1. Open the You tab by tapping your profile in the bottom right of the screen
  2. Tap Get Started

You can always change your username later in your User Settings. Learn more about our recent changes to usernames in our support article.
Thank you,
Discord

How did they get my username from here and then state I had a account with them?? Which I do not.

I can't help you with how they got your username, you must have signed up for discord at some point. I am on there, but I have a different username and I received the same email, that one is legit.

As for the other emails, its just spam which everyone gets a bunch of. It usually stems from signing up for websites or discounts, etc.

If you don't have discord, just ignore that and the other junk emails. No need to take any action.

As a side note, I constantly get emails about signing up for anti-virus protection or updating my Amazon account. ALWAYS check the sender as it usually comes from some random email, as opposed to Amazon directly. These are all spam. You should never respond.

I see way too many people getting scammed by these phishing emails. If it looks suspicious, then it should be flagged and deleted. Feel free to ask people you trust whether or not an email is legitimate.

3 of the last 4 times my debit card was compromised were from Discord subscription renewals. I don't have a debit card. It was impossible to stop for some reason.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this. The cyber world is not my forte. But I appreciate that it is yours and your willingness to help!

Just tell them to cancel the account. You will at least be a big pain in the ass to whoever opened it using your credentials.

I highly doubt they could make you change your username on AZ.

I just today had a legit looking PayPal email saying I purchased an $1100 item from Apple Crossgates. It's bullshit. Don't use any information contained in the email. Especially the phone number provided.

I got that email last week about the virus scan but it said it was from PayPal. The email was from a Gmail account though. Just deleted it .

Tell them you represent the record label and insist they stop infringing on the Label's brand.

Additionally, should it not wish to do so, it can go fuck itself and you'll need documentation this has been done.

That is just a scam, I get them every so often.
Discord is valid, it's a popular communications platform, often used by gamers but even schools setup Discord chats with students and teachers.

Don't ever click on their links. If you want to know if you have signed up with them at one time or another, just go to their website through a Google search and try to log in with your email and saying you forgot your password. If you actually have an account, they will email a password reset, if you don't have an account, they will instantly say no account found. If you don't have an account just ignore your emails you are getting and mark them as spam.

Thanks for all the replies and good advice. I guess I’m lucky to have not been targeted as much as others. My daughter and her husband said they get phishing scams all the time.
Thanks!!!!

I get two or three a day.

And if you do have an account, cancel it, as described above.

Out of curiosity I went to the Discord site. All I got was an offer for their app.

So I searched on how to log in and got a link. Put my email in and it said my e mail is not well formed. Could not get past my email which they do not like.

It worked perfect for Mike Howerton and everyone else.

So whatever Discord is it’s not for me and never has been…
