I am spending my time recreating the history of Black Boar and exposing all of Tony's dirty little secrets at Craig's request. Craig and I are convinced this is a story truly worth telling. Tony is not so convinced!

There is plenty of new text in the "How Tony Tells It" section and "Archives" are being added every day. Also, check out the Black Boar Blog for whatever Tony happens to be pondering...

Great Website

a short time ago i replied to a Searing for sale post....

i asked why searings were so expensive and had so much allure. the only two answers i got was production time and "the hit".

this website clearly shows why BB cues should and will always be one of the most saught after cues on the market.

I just finished going through everything on the website and would like to see more cues.

I certainly am happy with my BB and am waiting to see what you come up with as far as production quantities.
 
Thanks for the feedback, Bill. I will put 'more cues' on my agenda for next week. I've uncovered some rare, beautiful photographs I'd love to share! By Wednesday you can expect to find them.
 
New Cue photos

Mr. BillYards, at your request, I've added a whole new section titled "From the Vault." These cues are not Craig's, they are actually old photos I found at Black Boar. There are definitely some rare shots!
I added some today, more to come tomorrow!
 
Tony Fan

Love Tony and BB. Not only are his cues truly works of art so is he. A one of a kind individual who I had the fortune to get to know a bit when I lived in the DC area. Haven't seen him in years since I left northern VA, but forever his shop and "the wall" give me the warm fuzzies in my heart. Come to think of it...maybe I should drop him a line :) thanks for this wonderful thread and beautiful website that you updated everyone about.

If i'm not mistaken, i think it was BECAUSE Tony wanted to show people exactly how he made his cues, that he is not in the AMERICAN CUEMAKERS ASSOCIATION. If i am remembering correctly, all of THOSE guys, like to keep their trade secrets for whatever reason, but when i asked Tony, he was more then delighted to show me every aspect of how he put his cues together.

Seems fitting that he would continue to share that info.

I remember asking a couple of cuemakers how they built their cues specifically because i liked Tony's solid piece through the whole core process, and NONE of them would tell me. I was told by one guy that if i wanted, i could buy a cue, and x-ray it, and another guy told me i could buy one and take it apart if i wanted, and i laughed in BOTH of their faces.

I understand that some people like their secrets, but those 2 answers were ridiculous.

I have seen one or two of those cues before, but it sure is great to see that fine craftsmanship displayed on the web.

My next request is that you get Tony to write and publish a detailed book on how to make pool cues... complete with photos...

And a Black Boar Cue coffee table book...

Tony isn't the most tech savy individual, so I typically receive his email and print it for him to respond. Any email sent directly through the site goes to Craig, and he forwards them to me. It seems you've been lost in the shuffle... my sincerest apologies!

Are you spying on us??? We've discussed both of these book ideas at great length. I will pass along your interest with great excitement and look forward to the day I can fill that request! It will take a little longer than 'more cues', but we aim to please!

Your telling me that Tony can do all the CAD/CAM work for CNC programing but he can't check his e-mail?! Does he have someone else do all the computer stuff?

It's not really that he can't, it's more like he won't. Of course he does all of the cue computer stuff, but email is an administrative detail that if left up to him he would do without entirely.
 
I just went through the entire site and it is a job well done. It's been a couple of years since I've seen Tony, but people I can attest to the fact that everything that's been said is true in every word. On my first visit to Tony's shop it was through a phoned ahead introduction, and was only supposed to be a quick emergency tip replacement. I ended up being there for probally a good 2 to 3 hours, and during that time Tony hit me with so much information about cues that my head was spinning when I left. He's truly one of the nicest people that I've had the pleasure to know. I ironically talked to him back then about a website he said he'd think about one, I felt it would be great if all the information he had shared with me were available to the mass public, low and behold here it is.

And, before I go if you don't believe in the whole eye dominace thing, try the colored filters taped to your forehead experiment, anyone that knows Tony knows what I'm talking about, it's weird but it will change the way you sight the ball.

Thank you all for the feedback and praise! As I've said before this is a project I very much believe in, and I'm excited to be involved. I am thrilled the community here has been so welcoming and encouraging! As for the photos, a great deal of them Tony took himself. Many others were shot by a professional photographer that Craig knows. I've taken a few, Craig's taken a few, and a whole lot I found around the shop. A little known fact about Tony--- he was a graphic designer for years before getting into cue making. He has final approval for any and everything on the site, especially photos! Photography is a subject near and dear to his heart. One night last week while I was walking around the shop with a camera in my hand a visitor overheard Tony instructing me on my photgraphic efforts. The visitor said "Well, clearly Tony doesn't know anything about anything..." :rolleyes: (LOL). I shot a dozen or so... he let me use 2.
