does anyone know if the distance from a diamond..perpendicular to the nose of the cushion is consistant on all pool tables? you would think that if it wasnt...then using diamond systems on a pool table would not be consistent from table to table. what is the average distance from diamond to nose of cushion?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but the distance is relative to the size of the table, just like the spacing of the diamonds.

The best systems don't have you aiming toward a diamond, they have you aiming to hit the cushion in front of the diamond. Since all table playing areas are twice as long as they are wide, the systems would transfer from one table to another regardless of size or the distance the diamonds are set back off the playing surface.

yeah..I thought about that... lets say we talking about 9 footers..is it consistant on all 9' tables? if so....whats the distance..or ratio to table size?

so how come you always hear.. shoot thru to the diamond? almost all systems I have seen..have you aiming at the diamond.. I need to know the distance from diamond to rail.. I'm drawing a perfectly to scale replica of a pool table on autocad.
thanks.

How about shooting through the diamond?

shooting through a diamond requires adjustment for different tables. If a system works simply with the area on the playing surface, it is much easier to adjust to various tables. Since the dimensions of the playing surface are always 2 to 1, size of the table becomes much less of a consideration.
I don't use a lot of "diamond systems", but what I do use for kicking 2 or 3 rails will work on any table.

It was explained to me that the books show shooting thru a diamond because the CB is being shown against the rail and you can only hit it with top therefore the ball will go long. If the CB is off the rail and you can use a center ball hit you shoot opposite the diamond. Made sense to me.

A friendly, more or less tip:

Google 'Billiards diamond system'

Byrne gives as good an explaination as you'll see

you might want to adjust your statement
