Do people really have an interest in how their case looks?

Interesting case

I agree with everything that has been posted so far. I'm grateful we don't just have ONE choice for cues and ONE choice for a case. Or just vanilla ice cream.

I think the sport of pool is semi unique from other sports because it is such a personal game. Every player must achieve their personal level of success on their own. People can show you how to stroke a cue but they can't do it for you. They can't win a tournament for you or feel the pain of getting knocked out of one. So it really becomes an investment of one's time. And therefore that journey becomes very personal to each player. It's just you and your equipment out there on this long journey. Be it plane jane or ultra fancy, most players care about their gear a great deal because it's part of them. Think of how much time and money you spend trying to find the right cue for you, the right tip, the right shaft taper, what you want and need in a case, or what you want it to say about you.

I enjoy seeing really cool and elaborate cues and cool cases myself. I think cue shows are tons of fun and I can't wait to see cue cases getting more attention in the near future!
For me personally, I'm very lucky and humbled by the case makers out there that are constant sources of inspiration and admiration. Thanks to all of you guys who make this a non-vanilla world!

Again, different strokes for different folks.

I like to keep my case balanced, so it rolls correctly on the Pool Table, the floor or the back seat of my ride.

I try to correctly support my Cue Case so it won't warp, that might cause my cues to warp when inserted into a curved case.

I keep the initials on my case real shiny so folks will know who is in ther presence.

Those Gator Cases look great, but we don't have anyone at my Pool room who can afford one...

LOL. My traveling case is a beat up in-stroke, and my player and breaker are beat up semi-sneakies. In short, I couldn't care less what my equipment looks like as long as it performs. They are simply tools to me, made to do work in a harsh environment. I don't flinch when I ding my cue on a bar stool or am forced to set my case down next to a nasty urinal in a filthy pool hall bathroom. When I wear them out, I will gladly spend the $1000 to replace them knowing that I got my money's worth.

That said, I do have great appreciation for the artistic side of cue and case craftsmanship, and I plan to purchase a very high end cue or two in the future. When I do, I will also invest in a very nice case to protect them - but those cues and that case will not ever set foot in a pool hall as long as I own them. If I buy what I consider to be a work or art, I will treat it as such, which means it will never visit a restroom that makes you feel like you need a tetanus shot after taking a leak.

I'm having a case made for me, and the reason isn't to be flashy. I wanted something that represents me and only me. It is my way of taking a small piece of my life and have it etched in leather for my son and hopefully his kids. I have a pocket watch from my Great Grandfather and, although I didn't know him, having the watch that he came to America with brings me closer to him. My wish is that my cue case has the same effect.

It comes down to what is important to you and what you can afford.
I have some expensive cues and for that reason i want them in a case that will keep them safe and not warping or getting dinged up. They wont leave the house and i don't need anyone to see them but myself and those who visit me.

Decorating cases is as old as time. People decorate their weapons and the cases that hold them for a variety of reasons. The simplest reason is to easily and quickly be able to distinguish yours from the next person's.

People like to have something unique that fits their personality, they like to have something that reminds them of milestones in their lives. The like to reward themselves for reaching goals.

I have made cases for people which have very deep meaning for them. I have made cases for people who just want to have something whimsical or different.

People like the idea of being able to see their fantasies made into reality and I am one of the few people on Earth who does this type of work.

My own personal case is a simple blue leather case. I like it this way.

But the owner of this cases likes his to be a little more ornate,

Nothing wrong with that as he can afford to indulge his ideas.

Most of the cases sold by Sterling Gaming look like this;

But if someone wants to be a little fancier then they go to this;

To each his own right? Would you really want to live in a one flavor world? Isn't it a little cool to know that there are people in the world who will pay someone else to make them a high decorated case to compliment their cue art?

This is my new favorite case and the one I will be making for myself for Christmas. It will have a little decoration on it - an abstract nine ball set that I designed in 1993 and put on the case I built for myself back then.
