I think it is the people who lie about items in their


descriptions screw up ebay. And some of the same


people are right here on azbilliards.

Your an ebay seller are you not, well at least you said you were. Do you own a legitimate business of one of those Mom and Pop operations out of a bedroom?

Yes I agree that ebay is certainly a place where the buyer must beware because of some unscrupulous individuals who take advantage of the system and out and out steal.

But then you have people with legitimate business who use others as fronts to sell items close to wholesale because they can't do so themselves do to the manufactures regulations, which is also stealing.

So yes between the thieves and the business owners who violate the manufactures requirements ya ebay is totally screwed up. Like I asked you before what is your ebay user name, I have nothing to hide I will give you mine fullsplicebilliards the same name of my Pool hall and retail store!!:smile:

My position, as mostly a buyer, is that Ebay provides a service for a price. Part of the price is fees for service. for sellers another part of the price is dealing with buyers who are stupid. For buyers, part of the price is dealing with unscrupulous sellers.

Ain't no free lunch but they definitely have opened a market for buyers and sellers that wasn't there before.

I have met or worked with a bunch of the fraud investigators for ebay and it is alway amazing to hear about the crazy sh*t they deal with over there. TONS of stolen or fradulently obtained goods, materials sold to make drugs, bombs, etc. Plus they are paypal is well, bring in some money laundering!

Ebay created a new marketplace and has been king ever since. They have some opportunities, but overall, if you know how to work the system they tend to favor the good seller/buyer over the sh*theads.

Yes, you would have to be aware of that because it is going to show as income to you.
I am at a bit of a loss though when I read people complain about ebay. They must have never been in a real business with rent electric insurance, licenses and so on. Ebay all you have is a fee for selling and that is based on what you sell.

Are you kidding me, you can't even lose money. Owning a store front business can be a nightmare with all the over head and you can work like crazy and make nothing or go completely broke. There are a lot of people making a lot of money on ebay. I am just mystified, here is something that has so much to offer and yet it isn't enough for many. They want to be in business for nothing and begrudge anyone else making any money. At a point, you really don't know what to say. My nephew sells high end collectible cars on ebay. Are you kidding, it would cost him a fortune to set up a business like that on a lot and how would he get buyers.

He sells cars where often the buyer has a local person represent them, inspect the car and it is trucked to them after the sale. Some buyers will actually fly in to see the cars. I don't even want to tell you what kind of money my nephew is making you would think I was making it up. His biggest problem is finding enough cars to sell. Many times he contracts with local dealers to sell on line for them. From RR to Porsche to classics Fords and Chevy's.

Before ebay he was working as a mechanic for a dealership hating every day of it. He rented an apartment from me (Real cheap he is family) and we started talking ebay, he knew nothing about it. His first things he sold after his personal junk was going to junk yards and taking off car parts and selling them on ebay. In a short time he learned what sold and what brought top dollar and it evolved from there. There is no end to what you can do with ebay and how much money you can make. Like I said, I am mystified some of the things people say. Here is something really amazing that is handed to them on a platter and they can't recognize it. I guess that is just the difference between people and why some have a lot and many have nothing.

Ebay has sucked big time since they quit allowing sellers the option of leaving negative feedback on scumbags like these.

yep, they don't even have to give you an excuse anymore. I'm lucky my market is mostly older folks so i don't have many problems..

I agree with many of the others on this topic, eBay is great IMO. I'm not a huge seller or anything but I do have a little over 350 positive transactions. I've been selling and buying there since 2000.

I've only ever had one bad experience on eBay, it was actually as a buyer not a seller. Paid a guy for an item, and he quite simply never sent it. PayPal and eBay both shut him down a few days later, apparently I wasn't the only one. I never did get my $35 back though

Neither eBay nor PayPal, hide what they do in any way, their policies and procedures are are there pretty plainly for anyone to learn about, and most guys I've seen complaining about mistreatment at the hands of either entity are generally really saying "I didn't read".

Brick and mortar guys that complain about the competition, well heck guys, America was built on it. We are supposed to relish competition and react and move with it. I know plenty of brick and mortar guys that instead of complaining about eBay, used it to their advantage and now have profitable eBay sections of their business.

As far as leaving your mood or attitude in the hands of some idiot you don't know? Really, how is that going to work out for you? If the guy doesn't pay, file with eBay, get your fees back and sell it somebody that will pay. Stay happy and move on.

As far as eBay fees being out of line? Try consigning something at Bonhams and Butterfields and see how some fees really work.

I wasn't so much responding your your original post as much as I was responding to some of its responses. I know what you mean about BINS, I stopped using them for several reasons, higher incidence of non-paying bidders being one of them. In addition, when you get stiffed on a BIN, you don't have an underbidder to send a 2nd chance to.
