I picked up a Tonkin cue that shows some light in the butt when rolled at the joint. I was told it was a conical taper.
The cue rolls good when together.
Would like to know if this is a problem with the butt or he does make the butt with a conical taper

Sorry I wouldn't know but if it rolls straight put together than its all good.

I once came across a Tonkin almost 20 years ago. It went through a couple of players' ownership because someone found the cue. It was offered to me for $500 at the time. It was a beauty but I didn't buy it because a lost/stolen Tonkin isn't something to brag about.

It went through two players and were no longer considered the "lost" Tonkin. It was considered their cue. I didn't pull the trigger but I remember it shooting well and a beauty of a cue. Looked very different than any other cues.

I'd expect "conical taper" to apply only to the shaft.

If the light changes when rolled, its warped.

If the light is the same when rolled, it has a curved taper or multiple straight tapers.

Also watch out for the wrap. The butt could be perfectly straight, but if the wrap sticks up a hair on one side, it could make the butt seem warped.

Prolly gonna sell it-not sure what I really have
