do you bring your own rack to the bar when you gamble ?

I agree.

If I want to play on good equipment, I go to a pool hall or bar that has good equipment.
If I want to play on sub-par equipment, I go to a pool hall or bar that has sub-par equipment. It's that simple. I don't bring my nice leather cue case with my expensive custom cues into a bar with an old Dynamo table nearing the end of total destruction.

Anyone that plays on bad equipment, knows it's bad equipment, and then complains it's bad equipment is an idiot.

Before you start calling people idiots, remember, not everyone has access to good or great equipment. It's not their fault and certainly doesn't make them an idiot (pot meet kettle).
Have a nice day

I think you're missing his point, Jason. Don't be offended, I'm sure he doesn't mean any disrespect by it.

Don't have to. I almost always play at my place, and we have Delta 13 Elite racks and Aramith Super Pro's on all the Simonis 860HR covered Diamonds in the house. And Magic rack behind the bar if you want to use one (no charge of course)..

I know, I'm spoiled, and I spoil my local players as well...

It sounds like I would be a regular at your fine establishment. :thumbup2:

I think there would be nothing wrong with carrying a Magic Rack in your case. Just about every Valley around here has one of those real flimsy $.47 cents plastic racks. they are so small that you cant get your fingers behind the balls (I like to squeeze them forwards to check for a small ball), if you try to get your fingers between rack & balls you can feel rack deforming, 7 finally they are so small its hard to get the rack off without bumping the balls. I love my Delta 13 for all of the above reasons and I also like the wooden Diamond racks, only problem with them that I have seen so far is sometimes you need to rotate them cause the head ball may be loose. On the Diamond racks there is a small white diamond on one point of the rack, I have always assumed this is designed to be the head ball end of rack, is this true or does it make no difference?

I don't think it makes any difference ... I've seen times where the white diamond point is actually the worst part of it, because it'd leave the 1-ball loose. However, I always use that side unless it doesn't work, which is not very often :)

- break cue
- joint protectors for all cues
- Q-glide
- scotch brite + assorted grit sand paper
- leather burnisher
- assorted tappers, shapers, scrapers & trimmers
- 2 rubber grip sleeves
- 2 gloves
- predator chalk & chalk holder
- portable cue rack
- 2 microfibre towels
- moosehead bridge
- balance rite extension
- tube extension
- assorted weight bolts & tool
- measle ball
- spare hustlin t-shirt
- 3rd eye stroke trainer
- additional contacts + solution
- billiard glasses
- simonis X-1 table cleaner

...but your own delta-13 rack??? that's just rediculous

I must be doing it wrong. I brought my flip-open case and cut bar cue.. that's all. Not even a back-up chalk or tip pick! :(

I have brought a set of balls, the magic rack, and Quick Clean to a pool room with me in the past.

This is 100% not even remotely close to true. I would be downright embarrassed to walk into a "bar" of all places, with my own equipment (racks/balls/glove, etc). If I was going to a pool hall, I would expect decent equipment. If it was horrible, I might bring a Delta-13, but I don't own one. I would never, ever bring a set of balls into an establishment, though. That's utterly ridiculous.

Why not? You bring your own cue, don't you? I'm sure the ones on the wall are perfectly fine according to your standards. They are usually in about the same shape as the balls.

Most pool hall have balls are worn and can't be properly racked. Often the cue ball doesn't match the rest of the set (for example, red circle with Centennials). Like I said, if I want to enjoy a serious match at a pool hall, with another good player, I bring my own balls and rack.

To a bar to hustle I wouldn't take more than a good piece of chalk in my pocket. Maybe a beat up sneaky that looks like a 1 piece when it's put together. No case, just carry the cue in.

How can you hustle anyone if you come in with fancy equiptment?

You may be able to gamble if you bring all your stuff, but there would be no hustling. There is a difference.

You act as though the house equipment only has an effect on you & you only & not your opponent as well. Would you bringing a set of balls that you are familiar with & how they play & not your opponent give you an advantage? I would say yes. All things being equal, let your skill do the talking.

My question about bringing my own delta rack or such is because the people I play know I can play so I'm not hustling. Just trying to bring a quality rack......my area has simonis cloth on most tables. Once again I'm NOT hustling. Just trying to keep with a consistent pattern on my breaks with a quality rack.

In this exact scenario I can't see why anyone would have negative feelings about it, I personally would be glad if some one I was playing a friendly game with brought a delta rack, especially over using old wood ones or worst yet the plastic bar racks

So if a room owner is a cheapskate I should just grin and bare it?

I don't like getting slugged or watching a ball roll off because the rack sucks or the balls are out of round..

I have 2 options in my trunk at all time... I have a tube of our Accu-Racks and I have a delta13 travel case with a set of centennials...

If the place I am going has decent ball sets I take the Accu-Racks in with me.... If I am going to a place where the equipment is bad or I am going to be playing one-pocket I will carry in the delta13...The equipment is bad and I play one-pocket at the Baileys here in Knoxville so the balls and rack go in every time...

Since I started doing that I noticed that a bunch of other players are now bringing in their own balls...

I have overheard several people kind of snicker as I walk past with all my equipment in tow but never has one of them been an actual player... I am sure a cpl of them maybe ran 3 balls in a row once....

I have also had neophytes laugh over my doing nothing but racking and breaking... for hours at a time..

Same thing on a position drill I will shoot for hours and hours if I am trying to come off a layoff.. Some people won't get it and they likely never will.. The problem doesn't lie within me....

If you aspire to play pro-speed you need pro-level equipment... As such I prefer to practice and play with new balls and a good rack even if the table is not pro-grade... There are no real options here unless I want to drive over an hour and I don't... I may never reach pro-speed and that's fine by me... But crap equipment isn't and never will be...

The last time I tried to hustle, I spotted her the 8, and it still ended in divorce. ;)
