I have never played where there was a ref but that would be one case where I would not call a foul. That is the ref's job. And he can get help from my opponent. I am pretty sure that any ref would tell the player to shut up - that's my job - quit trying to show me up.
In league night the opponent is supposed to be watching the table at all times. If the opponent is a jerk I will not do his job for him. But most of the time I will call the foul, even when the opponent doesn't know it happened, and especially if it is a weak player. Besides, what difference does it make? I'm going to beat the weaker player anyway.
If I was playing for $1,000 a match, which I don't, or even $100 and it meant a lot to me, then hell no I would not call a foul. You snooze, you lose. And we are not talking about obvious fouls I presume. Only the suttle, hidden ones. At least I don't think I would, but who knows, I have never been in that situation and I just might call the foul as a reflex reaction before I even realized what I did.
The double hit foul is one that is pretty hard to see but the player can feel it most of the time. Yes, I will usually call that one. But again it depends on the circumstances. And what is at stake.
In general I will call the foul on myself 99% of the time. But then, winning a game, or a match, is not a life and death matter to me.
