Do you clean the chalk off your tip?

I got my pool table about 2 months ago and I play or practice almost every day on it and I haven't been cleaning the chalk off it when I'm done(as I am most likely going to be playing the next day anyways.) A friend of mine told me you should clean the chalk of every day. Just Curious.

I never have and never will clean chalk off of my tip. Simply ask your friend "why?"

Use something like Chalk Off everyday and you will prolong the life and play of your cloth. It used to be you had to brush or vacuum your table to clean it which stretches the cloth a fair bit, now, with CO, you can clean the table in under a minute and not damage the cloth. IMO it is the best way to save the cloth speed as dirt and abuse are the two biggest factors and I would assume you aren't abusing your table.

As far as chalk on your cue tip, I have been told that by keeping the tip chalk free during the break in between play the leather will not be as likely to harden.

I clean the chalk off my tip after I play, before I put my my cue in my case. This is to protect the inside of the shaft compartment from becoming contaminated with lots of chalk dust. Otherwise, I don't know of a reason to wipe the chalk off your tip. I'd be interested in hearing why.........

Yes, chalk contamination is very serious business and could lead to the premmature death of your playing shaft. If I were you, I would investigate the levels of lead in the chalk you use and make sure your shaft is as healthy as can be.

If you don't put it in a case, it's useless. I do clean the chalk off my tip because I want the tubes in my case to be clean. Thassit.

Once at Derby City I noticed Alex P. drill his tip into the carpet before breaking it down and putting it in the case. I guess a good way to clean it, as long as it's not your carpet!

He also drinks like a fish. Again, okay so long as it's not your carpet.

I clean mine off before returning them to my case... always have... keeps excess chalk out of my case.

//i was using the carpet to do this 10 years ago, still do.

To keep from getting a blue shaft, I clean the tip before casing the cue. I'll usually use a towell taken from the bathroom or a paper napkin...

On a slightly different chalking subject... Was watching a rerun of Poolhall Junkies the other day. I was cracking up when they would very carefully and thoroughly chalk their tip. Then they would blow the chalk off before shooting! I guess this is supposed to look cool? LMAO!

Actually, it was scientifically proven that blowing chalk off your tip right after you put it on is one of the stupidest things ever. I would say THE stupidest thing ever but that award undoubtedly went to the production of Poolhall Junkies.

Are you asking about cleaning the chalk off of the table, the cue or the tip of the cue?

I don't see any reason to clean the chalk off of the cue tip if you aren't putting it into a case.

The table should be cleaned as required and it wouldn't hurt to wipe off the cue shaft once in a while to help keep it clean.

Basically it is your equipment so it is a matter of how clean you want it.

I agree. I know it's been discussed here before but let's reminisce...

Every shot in that movie was DRILLED with full power, even little hangers! Also, did you ever see so many combos? But I do think Christopher Walken is pretty cool. That man's hair always cracks me up. More Cowbell!
