Do you do anything before playing?

Hello everyone,

I am new to azbilliards after spending a couple weeks coming here everyday I decided to finally make a profile.

Anyways I was just wondering what some of you do, if anything, before you go play to get yourself in the right mind. Me personally, I like to watch videos right before I go out. I feel like whenever I do my stroke is 10x better than when I don't.

So what do you do?

Casey

I usually like to make sure im nice and loose cleared mind and when I finally approach the table all thats on my mind is the game.

But you know that Casey

Welcome to AZ, its about freakin time.

i put together my cues.

i dont have a ritual or anything but try to get focused on the match and how i will play my opponent.

I'm the same way. I like to watch videos before I play. Also for some reason
I like to have a cup of coffee, which is strange because I don't drink it any
other time. I do know for a fact I can't eat anything within 2 hours of
playing or I can't stroke well. I don't know if that's mental or not.

Welcome, have some fun! I like to get there early, league or tournament, and hit a couple racks of balls to find my stroke, then shoot a bunch of long straight-in's, then maybe play somebody. Sometimes, not always, I'll use my self-hypnosis triggers before and during play...takes about a second once the implants are there.

I always burn one before I play

I like to shoot 10-20 table length shots into the corner pocket. Not hitting a CB-OB; just stroking 20 balls into the pocket and paying close attention to my set-up, delivery and follow-through.

Right before playing a 9-ball match, I like to toss out all nine balls and run them in reverse rotation order, starting with the 9 and ending on the 1. That helps me loosen up a bit, and if I miss late in the runout, I don't have the mental image of missing on the 9. Instead I have the image of missing on the 1, which is less stressful.

Very interesting. Sounds like a really good method!

Welcome to AZ

Hi,
I am somewhat new here too, (coming up on my 6 month mark here).

I'll share this w/you and peops on AZ. I wouldn't even call this a "drill" as there is practically no skill in it, but if you try it I can practically guarantee that you will start your warm-ups with it.

I did this as the beginning of my warm-up at the pool hall before matches, and my team-mates practically laughed me outta the place!

its simple: scatter the 15 balls all over the table,(no cue-ball). Then , just shoot the balls straight into a long pocket. simple !

1st time : Do it long-table center pocket.
2nd time : Use English and cheat the pockets.

I have found this does 3 beneficial things for me so I don't care how silly it looks to others.
1- It gives me a sense of "Zen" as I am usually amped from caffeine on the drive to poolhaul.
2- It helps me get sightlines to be ready for the match.
3- It helps me get the feel for the table concerning felt & rails.(speed)<--- save the stripes for that.

Its something different rather than scattering the balls and taking the 1st shot I see for confidence, and going from there.

Well I have to eat something at least an hour before I play. I noticed a long time ago that if the session is going to be particularly grueling, like a tournament or a serious league match, that I need be well fed or my head starts to feel like it's splitting down the middle. Also, for some reason I always feel compelled to wash my hands before and after I play. And for some reason I have ocd about my hands being completely dry before I touch my cue lol.

Funny. I'm the same way.

Even my non-pool playing friends notice that I only drink with my right hand (my grip hand). It's become a habit on and off the table.
