Do you dress up for matches?

Yeah last night I was a bit freaked out, hence this thread. This dude: Barefoot...no socks.
Seeyanuts pants....call me old school, but ewwwwwwwww.

Here in Japan we take our shoes off at the door and are barefoot in the house. When I went to America I instinctively took my shoes off at the door and walked around in my socks the whole day. My socks were so dirty by the end of the day that it wasn't even funny, and this was in a very clean home. Carpets may look clean but if you wear shoes in the house trust me, they are filthy. How anyone can walk around a pool room in their socks or bare feet is beyond me. Nasty, nasty, nasty!!

Think the people in Japan could give us some lessions in sanitation.

It's not a bad idea to try to impress the woman you are comfortable with every now and then too!;)

That is a good point, and I do dress better when we go out. But she's not much the pool room type, so the slacks stay in the closet on pool nights

When I mentioned not being able to play barefoot or in socks, I meant at home.

At the pool room? Totally gross!

Sounds Familiar

When I played GoBrian77 at his house in Koh Samui I had to take off my sandals and play barefoot. I think this was a first for me?

I only feel comfortable playing in nice clothes. Normally a Golf shirt PGA dry fit or a lacoste shirt does me just fine, with black dress pants and nice leather shoes. Youll never catch me in tshirts anywhere.

I don't think I could do the nice leather shoes, my feet get sore easy so I usually wear all white tennis shoes like Stan Smith Addidas or something.........clean, but I totally agree with the way you decide to dress. There is nothing wrong with looking nice at the table and everything wrong looking like a slob.

Didn't seem to affect your game much.;)

At home I ALWAYS play barefoot (with my golden retriever hanging out under the side nearest the A/C and the cat screwing around under the table cover or knocking balls off the bottom shelf of the cue rack), and if I'm playing alone I'm generally shirtless (I wore one when Cuaba was over:p )

If I'm out, it's jeans and flip-flops (maybe cargo shorts if it's really hot)- "dressing up" has a different meaning here, as the island is super-casual for pretty much any occasion (haven't worn a tie in over eight years:) ).

Dress

I dress casual, but a nice clean casual, whether it is shorts or jeans with tennies, and a nice T or Polo shirt. I never wear button down shirts to play in, they bother me.

For larger tournaments, I try to dress a little nicer, and I am always clean shaven.

depends on my mood.

I usually wear something comfortable to league, dont want another thing to worry about when im down on the money ball.

Other than that it just depends on my mood. If its a fri or sat night then maybe something nice (more chix in the bar). during the week then whatever feels good. nice or not.

man am I gonna get flamed for this, but I'm gonna say it anyway. All you single guys who are dressing to impress (hoping to impress) girls at the local poolhall...LOL. No offense (though I know someone will be offended here), but I've been to a TON of different poolhalls and the only girls that'd be worth impressing are those that were drug there by their boyfriends/husbands (meaning already taken anyway). Sure, I guess you may have enough game, style, and well, "game" to c0ckblock said boyfriend, but come-on then you'll be the one dragging her to the poolhall....just a vicious cycle - poor girl. LOL

Im engaged. but it never hurts to be getting checked out by a drunk 20 something;)

also doesnt hurt to look good while ur running out.

Just imagine Jackie Gleason in 'The Hustler' wearing shorts, a ratty t shirt with a metal band's logo on it and no shoes. It wouldn't be the same movie. I think class is the bedrock image of this sport. Check out all the Newman/Gleason pictures in your local hall. There is a reason they are there. I think that should live on.

Class never hurts. I happen to think pool is a classy game, despite some of the dark folklore attached to it. But in a funny way, when you dress up that dark folklore, it becomes like Gleason and Newman; much more cool and appealing.

I gave away my last pair of dress shoes to the VA Hospital in Prescott, with Suits, Ties, and Dress Shirts.

just don't make the mistake of equating class with attire. The best dressed guy in the room might cuss and act like a drunken sailor, and be "that guy" who's never bought a round but somehow always partakes in your generosity. Old addage, book - cover, well, you know what I'm sayin'.

funny how this thread states dressing the part is essential, yet in another thead Hoppe is celebrated for having walked into a poolroom (probably more than one) in greasy overalls, etc. So, looking like a boilermaker after a 12 hour shift is fine if it's "used" correctly....LOL otherwise please dress nicely. :D :p

'Using' clothes, brings up a line from "The Color of Money";

"Vincent... leave on the T-Shirt..., it's a nice touch."

HEY! Are you saying there are no hot single chicks that enjoy playing pool?

Do you feel the need to look good for your matches? Just curious. I wear Jeans all the time at work and around the home, but when I play pool (even most times practice), I try to look my best with a collared shirt, decent slacks, belt shiny shoes etc. (Pinky ring , but that's another story.) I guess I am old school.

At my local league, we have barefooters... no kidding. Can't say I like it.
Looking your best never hurts, is my opinion, but then again what looks good (especially today), is subjective.

Maybe I have watched the hustler too many times.

Honest replies appreciated.

TY.

I would spend my entire life in jeans or shorts, a sweatshirt or a t-shirt, and sneakers if I could and that includes playing pool. Matter of fact when I'm playing pool or any other form of recreation I want to be in casual clothing even more.
I think dressing "right" is a much of nonsense. My only consideration when choosing what to wear is my personal comfort.
Steve.
