First: You never did answer my question.
Second: Most all of ours did.
Third: When I'm not playing pool (which is a game), I shoot in USPSA competition (which is a sport).
I'm not saying I disagree, but I do have to ask. What makes shooting a sport?

It's difficult to quantify because the line can be a bit blurry. Sports and games often overlap.
My view, however, is generally historical. Shooting, skating, boating, and masturbating, have always been considered sports. Golf, football, baseball, and team masturbating has always been considered games.
Pool (pocket billiards) on the other hand, could best be viewed as a Cue Sport comprised of a multitude of games such as One Pocket, nine-ball, 14.1, three-ball, etc.
Pocket pool, oddly enough, is unique unto itself in that it is considered both a game and a sport.![]()
Damn, you are on fire tonight.
I think you are drunk.
Nope.
And, for the record, I had my last adult beverage well over a year ago when I learned I had MG. The medication won't tolerate it.
If I say in a thread that I've been imbibing it's only for comic effect.
The concentration-level in takes to play at a consistently high level is higher than average people understand... Even players who've been around the game for many years never pick up on this fact.
The advice you're getting about seeking the help from professional players is good advice but make sure this pro is consistently great and he/she knows how to instruct and inspire. Many pros might not be aware that they naturally concentrate at a higher than average level.
A great instructor will sit back and watch you and then list the things you need to work on. He/she will then monitor your progress --- but none of them can increase your level of concentration.

A midget? Kinky.
No. Myasthenia Gravis.
It's a neuro-muscular disease. It's a cousin to Muscular Sclerosis.
Yeah...sorry to make joke.
It is either that or smash with me.
Well I asked the question to myself and honestly I didn't think it was possible to make a big jump I'm my game in my 50s , however I given a unique opertunity to play on a team with a good shot of going to Vegas in the masters division I took it on as a task ,,
I had to be honest with myself on where I needed to improve , first was that needed to get my mental side in order i had lost a many of matches and money because of losing focus on the task at hand meaning one shot full focus ability staying in the moment ,
So I saw a sports shrink , followed by a lesson from Scott Lee first lesson ever and in my 50s ,,
The results was amazing played the next week in a strong Tues night turney beat 3 players I never beat before took 3rd money money and left still live played the next weekend in the final leg of tri annuals won 8 matches for n a row under win or go home circumstances with 2800 on the line which we won few weeks later 9th in APT pro am
I really neeed to one time put everything aside and put everything thing I had into it to know I gave it all I had and see where the chips would fall , I was happy with the results and I could have built on that I'm sure , however it's a grind to keep up that level of pool week in and week out is way more than I want to do at this point in my life
That was a few yrs ago just play once a week league pool if I make that , buddy of mine who owned big daddy's pool room last week in talking told me Mark your whole game presence at the table your attitude is so much different than it was yrs ago
That made me feel good
Bottom line is it may not be one thing could be a few things but if your honest with your self pro may or may not be within grasp but big improvement is possible if you put in the time ,,

I played a tournament a few weeks ago and missed 3 bih shots.
Didn't like the angle.
I think that it maybe safe to say that the gap from banger to shortstop using pool terms is closer than the gap from shortstop to top echelon - pro player. Like in golf it's by far easier to go from shooting 100 to 80 than it is to go from 80 to scratch golf. I believe this is why the feeling of being stalled is common. I can relate. Looking to pro instruction would likely be helpful. You may also find that making changes will cause you to go backwards for a spell. Making corrective changes to your stroke, stance etc. can be difficult after years of doing something one way. The other reality that we all must face is that at some point the physical skill vs. age vs ability will top out..
Effort is usually rewarded with result, so keep on keepin on!
