And then sometimes we post while we are in a bad mood and have to apologize later for things. Just like in real life.
This happens to me alot... lol. Sometimes I shoot from the hip without thinking...

i removed my RL name/location when i changed my avatar...:D but if you wanna know you can ask.

and i agree that anonymity on the internet is the root of all evil.

This is why I never post on the NPR boards... that is where things can get really scary :).

I try to post objectively, but have had to think twice before posting and sometimes even afterwards, hence the editing, lol.

Everyone knows who I am - I don't hide it. If some sicko comes after me because of what I did on the internet, then, I guess what happens, happens. You can't live your life in a glass bubble, constantly afraid. OTH, I try not to inflame anyone either. ;)

I've done my share of apologizing, even just this morning! :p (Hint - It's easier to get forgiveness than permission. )

I've had people come up to me and say, "Hey, you're Rackmsuckr!" We do live in a tight community in the pool world, and the internet has made the world smaller. But I value the good that has resulted because of that, rather than disparage the bad.

That answer your question? ;) :D

In all seriousness though, I've been on message boards (again mostly boating related) for 4 - 5 years now. This site is pretty mellow to say the least, a few fist fights have errupted from things said on the boating message boards when two people ran into each other at the river. I've gotten into it pretty bad with a few folks even though I make my best efforts not too. When they finally did break down at threaten me (becuase they lost the little virtual flaming debate), I threw up my address and told them to come on down anytime there feeling lucky. Amazingly enough everybodies a tough guy on the internet. On those boards it's so common place that they have names for it I.E. "Keyboard Courage" and little catch phrases that others in the community throw out with someones being an idiot "Open mouth insert keyboard" etc.. I will say though some of the "flaming" is pretty hillarious, but you can't take it personally or to heart. After all it's the internet. ;) My personal take on it, don't write it unless your prepared to say it directly to the guy if he was standing in front of you.

I dont post under my real name, but all the info you wanta know about me is in the profile. Using a nick name is just a habit i got into when i first got my computer many yrs ago. What i say in a forum is what i'd say in person, as far as i know ive never said anything to anyone that was offensive. But if i did i'm not to big to apogolize.

I was SHOCKED when some guy I never saw in my life came up to me at the local pool hall last year and said, "hey, are you that Williebetmore guy; what's the deal with the AZB room?" While the pool community is a small one, the internet (especially AZB) has made it a closer knit one.

In the last 6 or 7 months I've had this happen three different times. One is registered and the other two are not. They all 3 lurk and read almost every post on here.

Nah. I try to avoid being the first-flamer-unflamed. I love this forum for the advice and expertise available. I don't go out of my way to divulge who I am, where I live on the internet, and i don't go out of my way to divulge my AZ "handle" to folks I meet in the flesh either.

I'd never say something out of line on here and use my real name. I tend to stay away from confrontation in fear of someone finding out who I am.

A fellow AzB'er introduced himself a couple of weeks ago when I was at Hard Times. I've joked about my friend, Bobalou, quite a few times in the past and this other AzB'er tells Bobalou about it. Just as Bob and I were talking about the things I say on here, this guy came in the door telling Bob about the latest announcement. I didn't get a chance to talk to him very long because another old friend walked in that I hadn't seen in about 15 years.

Most pool players from Hard Times, or California, know me as Rude Dog. Whether they post here or not, I wouldn't know. I went to dinner with Dave Hemmah and I brought up this site in the conversation but he said he doesn't post here. Which surprised me, for some reason. As many members as we have here in this forum, there's not many people that I do know. Oh well, peace, John.

Are you kidding me? How can anyone mistake those two? Timberly may be pretty...but she's not THAT pretty. :p

Anyways, back to the subject at hand... I see no problem with people posting anonymously. And I disagree with the statement that "anonymity on the internet is the root of all evil". No, the problems is not anonymity, it's being a jackass.

I hope that everybody who posts here realizes this is "real life". They should be candid in their comments because there are consequences.

I used to take the boards much more light hearted than I do now. Given time, how could we not? We've seen people suffer with disease and die. We've seen people make enemies for life eventually leading to physical confrontation. We've seen embarassing situations exposed for the pool playing world to see.

I would not post something here that I wasn't willing to share with the world.

With so many meet-and-greets, I think this has sort of become less of an issue. Anyone who has met me will see that I speak just like I type. But, you can't hear inflection and tone when I type. Unless you've got a special monitor.

One of my teammates reads this site, but doesn't post. And, another poster shoots in the same very small league as I do. So, everything I say better be on the up-and-up.

I've met many posters who admit to saying things on the internet that they would never say in person. Sad, but true.
