I am doing research on the history of bans in pro pool. The first was against Cisero Murphy because the color of his skin and this happened in America, the oldest pool federation.

Bans have become popular in todays billiard sanctioning bodies. They are being issued with more frequency.

In pro pool the discussion of bans is current events. In your local pool groups what is the threshold for a ban?

I knew a guy that got banned because he wouldn't leave people alone when they came just to hang.
Ordinary folks who showed up to shoot a game of pool, people on dates, people waiting out traffic etc..
He was always on them "showing them how to shoot", talking them to absolute death about cut induced throws, cueball deflection and crap that they had no idea what it meant.
It got so bad that he was driving away business. Most people after about half an hour of this crap would just pay for their time and leave.
Less alcohol sales and he was banned. :)

I heard the World Record Holder for being banned from the most poolrooms & also pool tours is Marty Herman.

Good point I didn't research bans from pool tours.

What is the rest of the story?

Not for me to tell. You obviously don't know the pool scene around Ny,NJ,Ct,Massachusetts or you would know.

It was before my time. I read the posts on AZ.

Sounds like the spirit of Minnesota Fatts.

Poor language use today is documented for many medical reasons. Not enough people go in for checkups when they might notice something.

Yep. I know people who have been banned from pool halls, bars, grocery stores, airlines, hotels, restaurants and massage parlors. I know one person who has been banned from two of the previously mentioned entities.

But when it comes down to your inquiry, the only reason a person, that I know, that has been banned from a pool hall/club, is because of the “no smoking” rule. Which is odd, because I know a lot of weird dudes.

Get a job and take your damn meds.

One poolroom owner told me I would be asked to leave and banned if I placed the chalk face down on the rail. Playing so much 14.1 as a youngster, I don't think I ever put the chalk down face first. I fed coins in an older coke machine and the woman piped up "Don't open that for 5 minutes. I don't want coke sprayed everywhere." This was 1PM on a weekday and I was the only customer in a 12 table room.
Bans I've actually witnessed, were as a result of physical violence. One guy I know that has a short fuse was called a $hit shooter by a guy not even in the game. Funny thing is, the guy being picked on has about a 20" neck and is built like a silverback gorilla. That started a 20 second bit of action that resembled a badly ending MMA cage fight. Rule 1; never let your big mouth bite off more than it can chew.

When I lived in Springfield, Missouri and there was a very good player (Jamie) that enjoyed busting pool lights on the break, with the cue ball coming straight up after contact with the racked balls.. He had done it in several bars.

Thinking back that was over 25 years ago, in the late 1980's.

No, they're not becomming more popular. You're only just hearing about them. For example: players who switch continental federations are suspended from competing for a period of time, I think, for 3 years. This is in accordance with the IOC rules and regulations. This is to prevent players from hopping around to various federations in order to gain entry into events where they couldn't gain entry through their own merits in their own country or continent. Also, players are sometimes lured by another country or continental federation to play for them. A player must be a citizen of the country he's representing, and if they do switch citizenships, there is a waiting period to compete.

Banning players is a last resort and not something that is taken lightly.

Don't listen to BC. Marty is a great player and an even better person. Loved and admired by all.

His (Hermans University) has trained many world class C players.

He'd be the perfect guy for you to merge your Academy with and stand the billiards world on its head. Together you could take the lead in returning American players to dominance in pool.🥴

I know 1 guy banned from one of the halls in Tucson.
Here in TN, I know of 3 people being banned (often temporary) from one or both pool halls in town.
Typically it is from fighting or trying to instigate a fight.

No. Never known anyone banned or barred. Have known some that no one would play or have anything to do with. Banned (isolated) by avoidance.

i know a guy that’s banned from one pool room and three bars in brooklyn

and another guy banned from the bar that has a seven foot valley table

Dunno if it was banned or just kicked out and told to never come back. Drinking and smuggling booze into a no drinking/no smoking family pool hall. Far as I know, they didn't come back...bunch of loud mouthed punk types.
