Curious how many play in a league here, and what league. BCA, TAP, ACA, orther? Peroonally have NEVER been in a weekly league.

Currently Play APA and BCA. I have played TAP and NWPL. I enjoy league quite a bit. I also play in weekly and monthly open tournaments around my area.

I play a BCA league.....Honestly the main reason I play is to qualify for the BCA.....

If I were to play in any other league, it would have to be nothing more than a scotch doubles type that gives me the opportunity to play in every game....I would do a singles league...(but I have never heard of one)

I have a really hard time with the 1 game then wait for a half hour to play again...(and only getting to play 4 games all night)

The good news is that in Vegas it goes a bit quicker between games using two tables.

I never played in leagues until I moved to Fayetteville last year to take a job and did not know anyone. I decided to join a league to meet new people and have a little fun possibly. I joined both APA & TAP. Fast forward a year and I am about done with leagues.

My main problem with it is that my handicap prevents me from playing. I am a 7 in APA & TAP 8ball and an 8 in APA 9ball and 1 win away from being moved back up to a 9, if I could ever play again.

My first session I played on an APA 9ball team and went to an 8 handicap in 3 weeks. Got halfway through the session and had a lower handicapped player move up that caused me not to be able to play the rest of the session. So should I have got a refund for all those weeks I played for nothing?

My new team I am on has some lower handicapped players but the team captain, who is a 4 and obviously knows everything about pool, hasn't played me in 5 weeks because he doesn't think our lower handicapped can win his match. So he puts up himself and another person who they think can win both matches, which means I can't play. Seeing how I only really enjoy playing 9 ball during leagues, I told them they could take me off the roster after getting fed up with it. I was considering find a new team for next session but I think might just call it quits for leagues.

I am also fed up with sandbagging and drunk idiots saying "That's APA" after a ball is slopped in.

I currently play apa. I do not like the 23 rule. I feel the format is stricklly for weaker players and punishes players for getting better. I would like to try to get a tap league in my area. Does anyone have any opinions about tap one way or the other.

Yep...10 years or right at it worth of apa 8ball.

Still enjoy it for many reasons, but I see the problems others mention.

In our town, its the only show in town as far as these things go...I think I'd like to try tap given a choice, just based on what I've read here over time.

Definitely agree w/ you about the 23 rule!

I play in BCA and APA both 8 and 9. I like APA 8-ball better than BCA 8-ball and BCA 9-ball better than APA 9-ball. You just put up with sandbagging and enjoying playing. Hustling will always be part of the game and that is what sandbagging is to some.

Playing in BCA & VNEA right now, one week left for both.

Going to give APA a try through the summer.

I play both APA and BCA 8 ball. Both have their plus's and minus's. Both get me out and playing pool.

I don't like the 23 rule in APA 9 ball but like it in 8ball. Its a league for the masses and thats who it should target. 23 in 9 ball makes little sense.

I enjoy league nights still but not as much as I used to. Maybe just me though.

I used to play APA nine ball but gave up a league night. Very hard to play as a SL 9 but much easier to help and be a part of the team on OFF nights.

No handicap in BCA but in APA I am a SL7 and SL9.

I've always enjoyed leagues and like the competition and playing new folks. I've played both scratch and handicap leagues. The 8 ball league we just wrapped up is probably the toughest I ever played in- with 5 of the 7 teams you had to figure that if you missed you weren't gonna shoot again. In that environment, the handicap encourages better play since in order for your team to win you either need to make the other team play below their average or play above yours.

I play league. But I don't know what scoring system (numerical) they use for the levels. Jude would know.

I currently play TAP 8 ball and 9 ball.

I started playing leagues with the APA back in 98, but eventually capped myself out of that league. I was a 7 (8ball) and an 8 (9ball) and it became difficult to find enough low players to help us make the 23 rule.

I play in 4 weekly leagues. 3 are in house leagues at the pool hall that is close to my house and 1 is a barbox league played at various bars over a good sized area.

Seriously, I wonder what the purpose of this poll is. There is one "yes" and a whole bunch of "no"s. What information are you trying to draw from these results?

Why not start a poll like this:

What is your favorite color?

1. Blue
2. A color other than blue
3. A non blue-like color
4. I don't have a favorite color
5. All colors are my favorite
6. I have a personal explanation as to why the above choices are not suitable for me

When

classifying for the poll, you did not consider players that just may sub now and then and not play on a regular basis. Most of the top players around here do not play in leagues anymore because of the commitment, schedule, or the hassle that it has become.

So, if you rated all players in the area from 1 to 100, then the range of players playing league now would only be those players in the 1 to 80-85 range instead of the whole range of players, 1 to 100. Then, the top players in the league, get to thinking they are the best players in town, even though players in town rated 81-100 aren't playing league.

Now, what happens next, is what has happened to me. I sub on my brother's Lawyer team, just an average team, and I beat all or most of the best players on the other team. They then proceed to get mad because they are under the impression they are the best in the league, and I have dethroned them. Harsh remarks may be made in anger, sarcastic remarks.

And it comes, not just because I beat all their players, including the best ones, but because of my coaching I do for my team. I can coach other players on my team to an out that the opposing player knows they would not make without my coaching, and this pisses them off because they end up losing where they would have probably won otherwise.

Someone finally mentioned my favorite reason for playing, I am a sl7, APA 8 & 9, and BCA 8. I don't play as much because of my level but I enjoy the couching and teaching of the other players. They seem to like it too. I have past teammates that tell others to get onto my team and their SL will go up. I consider that to be a compliment.
