Do You Watch More 1 Hole Now?

I find myself watching a lot more one pocket when faster shooting young and not so young guns are playing each other. Do you like the faster run out pace that so many of the better players have brought to the game or do you like the old style shoot and duck, up table games that go on for hours? Johnnyt

I like both but I like old style the best. All that strategy is fun for me to watch.

Doesn't really matter as long as One Pocket is the game to watch.
I will agree, however, that the aggressiveness if the young players of today (Scott, and Silver, come to mind) adds excitement, but a little old fashioned ducking and running is good, too.

I've started watching more One Pocket ever since I watched the Accu Stats Make it Happen 1 pocket tournament.

I do enjoy watching the "go for it" shots but then say "oh boy, that was silly, he's opened himself up now" when they miss the chance. I find it funny that I always want them to go for it but then always say it was a poor choice when it doesn't work out. :)

Because I don't play much of it, some of the strategies are lost on me.
I can tell when someone is in trouble most of the time, but that's about it.

So for me, it's more entertaining to see players turn one loose ball into three,
then 3 into 5, and suddenly the game is over after just one error.

I do like a well-crafted safety too, when someone slowly spins the cue ball to the foot rail and
freezes it right on another ball. That's some pretty stuff. But it's just no fun for me when
the game goes uptable. I know purists would disagree but I would not mind if a rule was implemented
to bring uptable balls back down into play, lou had a good thread on that a while ago.

One pocket is more popular now that it ever has been. I was told when Frost and I made Power One Pocket we would be lucky to sell 200 copies because its such a niche game but we sold out the 250 copies we brought to DCC a couple years back within a few days and have sold over 1000 copies since then. I think the game has evolved and become more action packed with many of the straight shooting rotation players getting bit by the bug including some of the top players who in the past few years have really taken up the game like SVB, Dennis Orcollo, Darren Appleton and others.

It's my favorite game to watch because it involves so much more strategy than other games. I watch more of it now, possibly because it's just more available.

I'm not sure I'd have enjoyed the slower pace game played years ago. I do get bored when the game goes uptable and stays there for what seems like forever. Awww, come on, somebody shoot for their pocket!

I've watched some matches where I wish they'd have instituted a shot clock. Two minutes to figure out that you're going to shoot the CB six inches soft into a ball on the rail?

Yes. I love watching it, being played well.

I was up in the air on the question until this post. Yes, when watching people who know what they are doing, that's when I can watch it. Much harder to keep my attention on a game like 1P when it's being played poorly for funsies.

Also, some of the strategy is pretty cool, but I like watching somebody solve a puzzle and run out. Lately, though, that's been biting me in the arse(as has been shooting like a dog on the 9'), but I keep fighting the bigger dogs anyways. :o

It depends on why I'm watching in the first place.

For entertainment purposes, I love the faster paced, run-out style of the game. Those guys do some amazing things with the balls. It makes for a quicker match and lots of fireworks... very entertaining.

For educational purposes, I like watching old school one pocket. I don't possess anywhere near the fire power needed to execute the run-outs that the top pros do, so the slower paced game with a ton of moves will teach me more strategies that I can actually put into play.

Since your original question was: "Do you like the faster run out pace that so many of the better players have brought to the game or do you like the old style shoot and duck, up table games that go on for hours?"

My final answer would have to be... Yes. ;)

With very limited feedback I think my hunch was right. Since the younger top players started playing the game, and play the different style of fast paced run out game, more pool players that didn't watch 1 hole streams before are watching now. For PPV 1 hole has to be two top players that play run out style or one top run outer and one top old style mover. IMO. Johnnyt

If I'm watching football, I want to see some scoring. If I'm going to watch a show that doesn't have much action, I'd better see some cleavage.
