I used to play at a room with a modified version of a keno board where the pockets weren't blocked so that you could scratch. We played a hybrid between golf and keno with the board. We would each get our own ball to use the entire game. You would spot your ball at the 1st diamond after the side pocket (1st hole) and bank the ball two or three rails and try to get in the one slot for a hole in one (it paid double the max value- whatever the bet was per point times 15). Or you could go for high value numbers (13, 14, 15) which where back near the corner pockets (scratches costed a dollar or two or whatever depending on the stakes and if you scratched with the cue ball or it lands on the board that was also a dollar or two or whatever). Then, after everyone shot the 1st hole we jotted down who was plus what or minus what and spotted the balls at the 2nd diamond past the side pocket and worked are way across to the head rail, the other long rail and finished at the 9th hole. After the 9 holes, everyone would tally their scores and square up.
You would be surprised how good some people got at targeting slots with one, two, and three rail banks. If you shot early and landed in 15 you had to really sweat getting knocked out of the slot and into the corner pocket. Speed was the real key though. It was good for social action because the weaker players would get in with the stronger players because there was still a lot of luck involved. And of course as the night went on and guys got stuck the bets would go up. One game that I played in started in the evening, they closed and the houseman locked us in and we played until the place opened again the next afternoon! It was a lot of fun.
Edit: An old timer and good friend on mine told me about Weenie Beanie coming through Cleveland with that Keno board and beat everyone in the city that tried him.
