Does Anyone Also Make Pens?

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a nice new pen and was leaning toward something out of wood, instead of the usual boring, store-bought stuff everyone else seems to have. As functional as a pen is, I still want it to be a bit of a display piece, though.

I figured that there has to be at least a couple cue makers out there who dabble in pen turning as well, right? Well... I hope so.

If any of you have something available (or are willing to make something) in a really interesting wood, highly figured burl, curly koa, etc... please let me know. Looking for a ballpoint/rollerball twist pen that would fit nicely in a large hand.

Cheers,

Mike

Google Rick Hinderer. He makes custom knive and pens that have multiple pieces and convert to weapons. They are very nice and could helo you in a jam.

+1 on Jim Baxter....never bought one of his pens but did commission a set of joint protectors and he was a pleasure to do business with!

I brought 2 of Jims pens last year or so. Very happy with them and he did a top job.

I sometimes make them for military change of commands or retirements, etc. They're pretty fancy with crazy woods & engraved cases or desk top stands. It's kinda fun & a neat way to re-purpose scrap.

Thanks all, for the replies.

I've sent a couple emails and will go from there.

Cheers,

Mike

Here are a few that I've made. Fountain pen is made from Russian Olive Burl. The rollerball was made from a piece of Corian with some aluminum.

I make them all the time, along with letter openers, keychains, makeup brushes, wine stoppers, ice cream scoops, etc.... I have found recently that I like working with the acrylics better than wood. They come out and finish much nicer imo.

You have any issues with the music pens ?? Only done one but after assembly, it is so fricking hard to turn to open, it's not feasible to use as an everyday pen.

What kind of finish you use on your wood pens Jim ?? I got the acrylics figured out but still can't put a good finish on wood to save my life, lol.

I know that Thomas Wayne has made Wands in the past for professional magicians. Pretty cool stuff.

Mine turn ok...but they are more of a desk piece than daily writer. Go onto
penturners.org they'll help you work it out. Your work is nice.
