Does anyone here use a 2nd generation Predator shaft?

More specifically, a 2nd gen Predator Z?

I have a 1st gen that I love dearly and I'm thinking about getting a 2nd gen.

Who can talk me into or out of it?

I had a 30" Z-1 for a couple years with a sniper tip. Bought a 30" Z-2 when they came out. Hated it first night! My cueball did not react like I was accustomed. I hoped it was the tip, and installed a sniper like I had on the Z-1. That was the ticket. It played just like the Z-1 after that.

So to me, they move the cueball the same. As far as feel, I don't feel any difference between the two shafts on the same butt. But I know others have said the Z-2 feels better. And for the record, I never had a problem with how any Predator shaft felt like many others have (been using Predator shafts 10 years now).

As far as the ability to keep the ferrule clean of chalk, it is a bit better than the Z-1, but still bad compared to other materials. The ferrule is still soft and I can see slight flat spots on it after a year of play and the ferrule sliding on the table on follow through - just like every other Predator shaft made.

My personal conclusion is if you need a new shaft, get it. But it will be the same as your Z-1.

They play pretty much the same but both of the 314-2's I got were a little more solid, a little heavier, and stiffer. I also put sniper's on mine. My old 314 shafts were worn out down to about 12mm, so these replacements were a blessing.

Better feel and stiffer hit, with less deflection. Did not like the original Z much and so so about the 314. The second generation seems to be much better, IMO.

I have a couple of 1st gen predator shafts and I recently bought 2 2nd gen predator shaft blanks and I sent them to the cue maker who built my cue to have the blanks finished and the matching trim rings installed. When I got the 2 2nd gen shafts back I couldn't wait to try them out and I haven't used one of my 1st gen predator shafts since I got the 2nd gen predator shafts back from my cue maker. My new favorites are the 2nd gen predator shafts.....

I play with a z-2 a i like it a lot. I cannot compare it to the z-1, because I did use that first generation much, but if you do choose to go with the z-2, I have one for sale that is 6 months old and very well maintained. uniloc with black collar. I am thinking about getting either a 30 in shaft to replace z-2 because I am tall.
