Does anyone know what's happened to Alton Takata / Cue Caps??

If you haven't, you could inquire in the Ask the Cue Maker Forum.

That was where he hung out when he was here. Alton is a decent guy. I don't think that he would rip you or anyone off on purpose.

Probably a few guys that there that keep in closer contact with him than anyone in the Main.

The guys in the Cue Gallery that collect higher end cues usually used him for their joint caps. Could post there too.

I'm sure that you will have better luck at those 2 Forums. A couple or three guys who sell new and used High Ends on AZ may also know.

Over the past few months, we were in contact with him regarding getting some caps built. after negotiating the price and specifications, he suddenly sent an email saying he no longer wanted to make caps anymore. it was very strange, as if he'd suddenly just up and quit the business. luckily, we had not paid yet.
I don't know what happened, he didn't really go into a lot of details just said he didn't really love making them and he simply didn't want to make them anymore.
throughout the process he was extremely pleasant and helpful and then one day all the sudden... boom. so strange.

Aloha,

I heard Alton's name mentioned in the pool hall yesterday when I was playing pool. I don't know what the conversation was about but I'll ask somebody who may know the next time I go play.

He made me a plastic weight bolt that I was going to get him to adjust, but I haven't seen him in a couple months or more.

He's focused on other projects right now and stepped away from making cue caps, I'm not sure if he's going to return but for now his attention is elsewhere.

Hi Jimmy,

Guys, I know.

I was in correspondence with Alton about 2 months ago. I would have to check my e mails to be exact. The reason I contacted him was he put Phil Dade collection on a cap for one of my Ginas back in 2012. I have a few cues, but not a "Phil Dade Collection", that just isn't me. However, I never complained. I contacted Alton via e mail wanting just a cap without my name.

Alton retired from making caps because his mom was very ill and he was helping her. He offered to remake my cap for cost of freight. I said ok, proceed, let me know cost of freight. I never heard back.

Perhaps his mom took a turn for the worse. I know first hand how consuming health issues can be as things are finally turning around for me.

I will pull his e mail and contact him to see if I get a response.
Phil

Alton is a top class guy. I'm sure he will refund u if you could not wait any longer for the caps. I would say give him some time before publicizing things. Because some hard caps with a lot of details takes a lot of time and since he is no longer doing caps for business and he promise to make u one means he consider u a friend or a great guy to deal with. Not everyone could order caps from him, you know. Not trying to cause any problems here Jimmy, I've dealt with u and I know ur a great guy, as a buyer u may be anxious but do consider he is no longer into making caps but still promises to make u one, so I'm sure he'll definitely get it done.

Many times at AZ people jump the gun. If you see my previous post, I said Alton had a personal issue with respect to his mother's health. You obviously did not know him well and he must not have felt comfortable airing his personal situation. I know from experience that serious health issues demand your full attention and all else comes second. There are no retakes.

Alton had to step away to attend to his mother. Recently I received my replacement JP at N/C along with a stand to turn the old one into a paperweight at N/C. However, Alton is no longer making JP for the reason I stated,

For the record, Alton is one of the nicest, most honest and reputable people I have ever met, not just here on AZ, but anywhere. He would never rip anyone off. I wanted to pay but he would not accept. if you had a deposit, I am certain he would refund it.

I want to wish him and his loved ones the very best and encourage others to do so as well.

Thank you,
Sincerely,
Phil
