So I am wondering do you think pros get bored playing the same pros over and over? I mean I have seen earl and shane play pool like 10 times on different videos on youtube. It would seem like it would get tiring. But I guess they gotta make money.

I'm no pro but I play alot of the same guys over and over at my local tournament, I don't think about the previous 10 times while playing them again but think about the week prior if they happened to of beat me, or I won, either way it adds drive for me. Maybe similar for them.

Thats one of the big reasons why I quit league play. Each week I knew who I was playing based upon which team we were up against. I knew it was a handicap thing but it got boring in 8 or 9 ball against the same people.

When you play pool for a living, the answer is no. Playing the same guys over and over is a fundamental part of showing up to work. Even if you compete at the amateur level, it should be the same. You need to be happy to play against those that stand between you and success, even if it is the same people over and over.

When you play pool socially or for practice, if you enjoy the company of those around you, that's great. If you don't, you can find others against whom to play, because in this situation you my find the game boring an dunfulfilling.

It's all about what you're looking for.

If you are aware of what other players are doing well or doing badly playing the same people can be learning lesson or a show.

Personally I like seeing the same players making progress. Other times I am the player lacking in skill development, and it helps to see someone know what they are doing.

Plenty of pros and amateurs have put on shows and their opponents respond in a variety of ways.

I wouldn't say pool players make money, its more like they create interest or demand in pool or at a pool hall.

Can't speak for pros, but as someone that is extremely competitive, I do have an opinion on the matter. As long as the opponents have a chance to win say no, it doesn't get boring.

Sure if you're just playing chum in your pond, then yes. You'll need to find something else to motovate you.

When you're playing your direct competition in skill level. I personally want that winning record, and love having the edge in the trash talk.

I have no idea what the running total is between Shane and Earl, but I winning to bet they do. Even if they don't openly admit it...lol.

Playing people who can’t hang with you competitively is boring.

When there are only a relative handful of people in the entire world capable of doing that, you’re going to have to play them the majority of the time to keep from becoming bored...

We have a number of regular players in here that only play with the same company every time. That’s what they enjoy doing. They are recreational level players and they understand that they will most likely never improve, which doesn’t seem to be a priority for them.

I think a lot to do with that is the effort of focus. It takes mental calories to remain locked-in on your game and play "your best" for long periods of time. That requires a lot of effort and not much "relaxing" which is what the average player is looking for.

Both of them have been playing at the professional level well beyond 10 years, your numbers would work out to be way less than 1 time per year that they face each other.

i am never bored although there are many players who get bored playing me. 😭 😭

I play in different leagues that gather different people. There is some variety there. When league starts up again i will probably have 2 leagues in different halls.

Mostly though i play with one friend for hours on weekends. We push each other to get better. He is a more aggressive shot maker, and i am a more defense two way shot taker. We could easily play 10-15 hours against each other a week. Honestly, without him pushing me to play more aggressively and me pushing him to play more defense we wouldn't have improved as much as we have. Our games have become much more rounded.

I have no issue playing the same people, and i like going into a match knowing who i am playing and adjusting my strategy. I play to better my game, as long as the opponent is not a jackass i am up for a game.

At a pro level i have no opinion, and will never get there ;)
