Does it upset you when....

Hi!

Your opponent gets a lucky roll after a miss and checks out the shot to see if they hooked you or not?

I seem to see this a lot more in the past year or so... maybe I have just finally noticed it....?

I also notice when they execute a safe they check out their shot to see if they really hooked me or not before they sit down, but this makes sense to me more.

I haven't let it bother my play, but it has perturbed me a little. I don't have the heart to do it back (yet). It's starting to be so rampant, I might have to start, LOL!

I just saw Orcullo do it against Fu on International Challenge of Champions. Champions do it, so why not you?

JoeyA (don't think its meant to disturb the opponent)

I do a quick check to see what my opponent is shooting at prepare for my next shot in the likelihood that they'll miss. Pretty much for the same reason lorenze says he does it.

I am watching that too right now. LoL.
Orcollo just this crazy cue wave after he saw he was going to get hooked on himself after he jumped the over the 3 ball to pocket the 2. I do that too in tourney play.

Not really but it will bother me if he makes a subtle comment like saying "ooh" or "gotcha" i hate that.

That's what I mean, too - their body language says "yes!" (if they get lucky) or "darn it" if they don't get the hook (from their miss, mind you, not a planned safe).

I do this alot, so I'm guilty. But I do it because I'm just now learning to really study the table, not to be rude or snarky. Or to see how badly my cue ball control was on the shot.

I'm guilty too. I don't let it bother me. I really haven't thought too much about it before now.

I don't take myself too seriously so that might have somethig to do with it. That may also be why I don't do well in tourneys either. lol

I guess it makes it difficult to shark me since I generally don't care what my opponent is doing.

hard times

People do seam to do that more often then they used to.You might take it as a compliment. Some peeps will get in the way of your approach to the table while looking at or pretending to look at what they left you. When they do this I like to spend about 10 minutes looking at the shot before kicking safe.

The more I play though the more I learn to just focus on the table and not really even notice my opponent.

Maybe it's like watching a train wreck. 'Cept you caused it, so human nature... for most they can't resist.

It (mildly so) ticks me off when I have to wait for my opponent to move his a$$ out of the line so I can see MY SHOT.

Move along buster!

Not really....I do it sometimes as well..just to see if I left good leave or not...the pro's do it...why cant I..lol:thumbup:

Arrrrgggg

I HATE that! Doesn't bother me that they look or watch or even comment, but when they stand there and admire their work even as I approach the table! Ooooo that really gets under my skin. Like it's not bad enough that I have to deal with the play at hand, but then they're in my damn way! I've actually had to tell somebody "excuse me", certainly wasn't the exact words I was thinking, but I kept it nice while I was thinking...:bash:

Nah doesnt bother me, seems like a small thing to get mad over i used to let a lot of things my opponet did get to me but i learned to just worry about my game.

The Pros

I have noticed what the pros in the chair do. They wait until their opponent has left the table before approaching.

You rarely see them run into each other, if ever. Table etiquette. Let em check the leave or whatever, just wait till they leave the table to get up and shoot. ;)

Oooo, yeah, you're right. I should probably take a tip there and work on my patience and pace. And it would probably help me develop or maintain a pre-shot routine. But I'm always so anxious to get up there! Thanks for pointing that out.

good way to go

This is crucial when you have a shot clock.

Have you given any consideration to holding yourself accountable for mistakes made and opportunities missed? Instead of getting upset at what your opponent is doing, change you mindset and start being critically honest with yourself. Own your mistakes and accept whatever happens as a consequence. Analyze what you did wrong while you are sitting there waiting for your next turn. When you are hooked, do you look at it negatively as a prelude to losing? Or do you look for opportunities to reverse it and tie up balls, thereby making it harder for you opponent to run out and possibly getting another turn at the table?
