how big, i wonder, is the pool universe? if we added up all the people around the world who watch pool, snooker and billiard streams / tv, how large would that audience be?

3,000? 3,000,000?

just curious!

A very interesting question. I have no idea, but if we knew, I bet it would surprise a lot of people.

Sunny,

Just a bit of "useless" snooker viewing audience numbers for the 1985 World Final. Not to shabby for a UK population of only 55 million.

"A record viewing audience of 18.5 million tuned to BBC Two, the largest after-midnight figure ever recorded and the channel's best-ever figure."

Thanks.

Bernie. (Yes you guessed it....ex Brit snooker player;))

When I was writing a book about pool (fiction) I looked up how many people PLAY pool in the world. It was 150.000,000 I believe. So I would assume at least double that watch it. Johnnyt

The number who watch internet streams is probably still relatively low, maybe under 100,000 total. I do know that television audiences for some World Championships and Mosconi Cups have been in the tens of millions! SkySports and ESPN Star Asia have sent these shows to as many as sixty countries - LIVE!

On the other hand ESPN covered tournaments in the USA have rarely garnered one million viewers, mainly because they are delayed by weeks and months. Because of repeated airings, the total audience is also several million though.

P.S. The "live" audience for some pool shows in the Philippines has been over ten million views, in a country of less than 100 million people. That's Super Bowl numbers! No wonder Efren and Django are sports celebrities over there. Nearly as well known are Orcollo, Alex, Corteza and Alcano. They are household names as well in the PI.
