Does Soft Cue Case warp Cue

Have any player use a soft case only to find its cause a cue to warp? Wondering because I thinking of buying a soft case for a carom cue.

I keep my cues in a soft case most of the time and hang the case in a closet when storing (the cues in) it. No warpage issues yet.

Soft cases are fine for storing individual cues, just don't stack them or put any weight on them. A cue that is prone to warpage (due to the natural wood tendancies, grain, stress, seasoning process) will eventually warp to matter what type of case it's kept in.

Heat and moisture increase the chance of warpage. Best to store cues in a dry, climate controlled environment, like an air conditioned house or office. Because I stack my cases, I prefer square, hard cases. I use Porper dealer 12 X 24 foam core cases.

soft cue cases

I have always thaught that it might be just the oposate. That hard cases might cause them to warp by holding the moisture from the damp wrap in the case till it dryed out. Just a thaught. Might be nothing to it. I know a guy who kept his cues in a humidity controled gun case when not in use. They still warped. Butterflycues

Not so sure if all this stuff about leaving a cue in the car causing warping is accurate. I routinely leave my cues in the trunk, in a soft case, inside a duffel bag. Never had any warpage problems, and I have three butts and six shafts. Maybe I've been lucky, but I really doubt it.

"Is moisture the problem, Becky? Golly gee whiz, Boopsie, I cain't tell. Them shafts shore look straite..."

Play in a super humid environment for a day and see what happens to the shafts. They just get sticky, don't warp. Have I been fortunate to have good conditions in the trunk of the car? Probably not, just good cues.

Thank Arm9baller and Black-Balled! What I was wondering. The storage of a soft case (with cues in case)

My $.02 via Jim Buss Custom Cues

I asked Jim Buss about this just recently about storing cues for a long time. He said to store the cues in a hard case. A hard case that was not airtight and not in an airtight safe (like some climate controlled gun safes are). He said that due to the moisture content in wood that you want the wood to "breathe" to maintain the integrity of the glue joints and the different types of wood. Avoiding basements is good due to above average humidity. He also said to store the cue vertically to reduce the chances of warpage. I hope I have remembered everything he suggested.

interesting

Interesting thread.... I'm not sure who to believe. I just sold my hard case (Talisman) and got myself a new Silver fox soft case. I went with a soft case because there is more room in this new case and it's super light. Cheap too. I have a capone cue and several others i care and i really like this case. I never put any thought into the wrapping issue. Hope more people have some input.
