Does the cue make a difference with centerball?

If you don't spin your ball much does the cue still matter? It seems to me, center is center no matter what cue you're using.

The cue doesn't matter much as it is. Even then, most important is the tip. Then again, I have no idea what I'm talking about.

The Real Question....

:slap:

:banghead:

Guess what you really want to know is---------if you hit center ball,
is a low deflection shaft more accurate than a high deflection shaft?

Oh...here we go again. People are going to say how hard it is to hit
the cue ball in the exact center.:killingme:

I can tell you a good shaft and good butt will feel a lot better than a butt and shaft that miss balls. And if your tip is flat, you can hit center ball every time.

Now hitting the cue ball with your cue level...that's another problem.

Just having some fun on AZBilliards...again.
I say, the cue matters and is everything when playing. It is your magic wand.

If you don't spin your ball, the cue's weight still matters, as it will affect the forces and velocities.

Deflection won't happen with true center ball, so it doesn't matter.

But if you don't spin your ball, you're not playing pool. Or at least you're not playing well. If we play and you're not allowed to spin your ball, I'll bet anything you want.

Sure it does! Just like my break and jump cue, I have a center ball only cue. It allows me to get the most spin with center ball.

Not at all....but now that you mention it??

No, it's not. If you really hit center ball with a stroke that's anything like straight, then the CB's going where you pointed the cue and your high-tech or low-tech shaft won't have much to say about it.

It doesn't matter in regards to any spin on CB. But that's only one (small) part of "mattering."

Wrap or wrapless? If wrapped, what material?
Stiff hit or soft hit?
Balance?
Weight?

All cues do not do not move the cue ball the same nor do they feel the same so I have to say yes it would matter. No cue maker can make to cues that will be exactly the same, the inherent qualities of wood make that impossible. That is one of the reasons why a $200.00 cue may feel like a magic wand compared to another cue that may cost thousands of dollars. JMO...

I don't see how anything listed could make a difference aiming with center.

Thank you, this is what I am curious about. :scratchhead:

Not that much, think it comes down to just feel. Really don't think there is that much difference even with spin, as long as you understand how to adjust differently.

I've been going through an "equipment phase" lately. Wasn't happy with existing shaft, so I've been buying a few to try and will decide then sell back the others.

About 2 months ago, started using an OB1 and OB Classic demo at a place that I practice and teach out of. Liked them a lot, finally ordered one.

Before it came in, I played in and won a tournament with my current shaft at the time, the one I didn't like.

2 weeks later, played with my new OB Classic shaft, which was a little heavy for me and a little too thick, hadn't had a chance to alter it. Won that tourney.

Last week, ordered and received my Mezz WD-700 shaft ahead of schedule, had a tip on it I didn't like and no time to replace before the tourney. Won that as well.

Result: Feel and feedback are important, and while I sometimes obsess over feel, weight, deflection, etc., starting to realize it's the archer and not the bow or arrow... :)
