Does this mean the USOpen is Open?

from the story:
"The U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships has opened the field to give all the great players from America and all over the world the opportunity to play in this year?s U.S. Open."

So does this mean it's being opened to women as well as men, or does this just mean that all the great players are men?

Well considering there is a Women's US Open is it fair or right that they can play in this US Open too? To me it doesn't matter, the more the merrier, but is it fair for women to have 2 US Open tournaments to compete in while men barely have the 1?

If I read the article correctly, it says that matches may be played at the pool hall. I would not wanna play on a diamond in the convention center then go play on a gold crown in the pool room.

I know they have a couple of diamonds in the pool hall but still I just wanna play in the convention center

It says US OPEN not WOMENS US OPEN quit crying. Women playing against the men is the best thing that can happen to pool. Are you all so short sighted that you can't see this? Typical pool player all you think about is right now, not how much money this could bring in the future. This shouldn't be about money anyway, it should be about the best players playing each other regardless of their gender.
All of you woman haters say women can't compete against men overall, thats why they have their own tour, just like the juniors, amatures, & so on. If the men are supposed to be the best of the best then a women that can compete at this level should be able to play in these events.

Hello, Ms. Petty. Long time no see!

The article, the way it is written, is a little confusing.

I think what it is intending to say is that they will not cut the player roster off at 256 players, as they have in previous years.

That is why they state the added prize monies, if the player roster does go over the traditional 256 players:

Example 1
300 Players adds $26,400.00 to the purse and will pay up to 128 players.
Example 2
400 Players adds $86,400.00 to the purse!

Hope all is well with you! :)

I, too, think that women should be able to compete in the US Open, especially since there is not a pro men's tour, per se.

If they can progress through the brackets, they deserve it.

I dont think that is what he is saying....

He is saying there is a double standard. And I agree. I dont think there should be a woman's tour or woman only events. Its not fair to the women and its not fair to the men... and it only increases the unfair, untrue stereotypes.

I am 100% for equality no matter the sex, race, religion... whatever. We are all equal and should be treated as such. So there should be ONE US Open and should welcome both Men and Women.

I'm sorry but I can't agree with you here. The US Open has always been an open event. Put up your money and play. That's it. The fact is, women have only enhanced the prize fund and notoriety of the events they play in and succeed in. Even though Neils Feijen won the World Championship, it will be Jasmin Ouschan's performance people will remember.

Jasmine Ouschan aside, do you really think women are cutting into what men are making here? I think not. In fact, I think men are ahead on the deal so what's all the fuss about?

So you're saying there shouldn't be handicaps in league play? After all we're all equal right? Here's an idea for you, make the handicap unlimited & see how long ANY league would last. WAKE UP!!!!!!!
The reason there is a womens tour is the average woman pro cannot compete with the average male pro, not to mention they are the only ones that can conduct themselves professionally. If they allowed the men to play on the womens tour THERE WOULD NO LONGER BE A TOUR PERIOD. THE SPONSORS SIMPLY WILL NOT PUT UP WITH THE MENS BS. WILL YOU BE HAPPY THEN?

Im guessing you DIDNT read my post??? Reread what I posted and you SHOULD clearly see that Im saying the exact same thing as you.

If they don't cut it off, come on down, however, if they cut off entries at 256, then NO, they should NOT be allowed to take spots away from deserving men who wish to play. Nothing sexist, but they already have an Open to make money off of. The men shouldn't be deprived of theirs.

This has been discussed before, and I believe that Barry has an agreement with the WPBA, in which the US Open will be exclusively for men. Someone could use the search feature to confirm. I'm on here via mobile as I'm en route to Florida or I would.

No, the reason there is a women's tour has to do with the fact they have fans who attend their tournaments. It's a product and that product has customers. Even if women play as well or better than the men, there will a women's tour.

Can you give us the definition of OPEN? This should help you clear up your thinking.

Ah, you're right. I see it now. You were paraphrasing. Sometimes I scan through messages. My bad.

Can you give us a definition of WOMEN's OPEN?...don't be argumentative just for the sake of it, even when you know you are wrong, lol

I think this is all getting out of hand in a hurry. He wasn't using the word "handicap" in the literal sense. It was reference to skill levels in league play, that's all. I didn't think it was the greatest comparison one could make (comparing women/men to handicapped league play) but that's my opinion.

I agree. Skill level is skill level. Has nothing to do with man or woman. A B+ woman is the same as a B+ man... and so on. The only grey area is in the pro world but its the same for men vs men. Pro is a HUUUGE level and there are many different levels. They can all hold their ground with each other, but some people are just better.

Do you honestly think the women don't want their own tour? If there was only one tour open to everyone the women would be broke by the end of the year.
