Does your local room offer a monthly membership?

The local pool room here offers a monthly membership, just wondering how many other rooms offer one?

That is very interesting. This would work especially well with pool halls with large bars. They would make tons of money off alcohol just from the constant visits of the monthly members. How much is the membership in your pool hall?

I wish they did, but it might not be a good business decision for some places. They'd be purchased by the heavy users and it's probably better to milk them on hourly rates.

Another strategy that I suspect is rarely used would be to offer membership with discounted hourly rates -- extract that consumer surplus! (Econ 101)

These are the points I have pondered for over a year now. As great as I think a membership is, it really would cut into the total amount of income.

I worked at a paintball park about 5 years ago, we offered a membership there. They did it best, the membership gave you a discounted rate for time as well as on supplies. That's probably the best way to run a pool hall as well.

I also thought of a "12 days and the 13th is free" type of punch card, I think that might be more economically savvy for a poolhall, of course I'll never see these things come to fruition unless I open my own hall. Our local hall owner is making far too much cash off all the regulars to offer a rebate of any sort..All pipe dreams.

Hollywood Billiards used to be $75 a month, but they did away with it about a year ago.

In 95 and 96, my pool hall offered a monthly membership for $20/month, starting on the 1st of the month and ending at the end of the month, play all can from open to 6pm everyday.

There were many players that would end up keeping the table a little bit after 6pm so the pool hall made a little $ from that.

I don't know if they still offer it today, but if it weren't for that deal, I wouldn't be nearly as into the game as I am today.

I wish that my local pool hall offer monthly memberships, because that's a really good idea.

One hall here uses a punch card. One punch for every $10 spent on table time. 20 punches and you get a free day, play for as long as you wish. We would usually start around 2 pm and try and go for 12 hours. The amount of a tip when you were done playing usually corresponded to the amount of extra punches you could get on a card. We tipped well.

Yes, Rack Attack in Port Clinton,Ohio. They have a day pass and monthly.

Sad thing is, I don't think many people here take advantage and get a membership, how many places can you play all month for $60.00?

I only pay 35 a month for free pool 1pm til 7pm, half price after that.

The only problem is 90% of the pool players are STILL too damn cheap to buy anything other than a few bottled waters a month. The owner bragged about how he serves Peet's coffee and now half the players expect 4 cups of premium coffee for a dollar too.

I told him when he opened to charge 75 a month with 25 a month given back as drink coupons. He already mentioned he might not open til 4pm in the summer - the regular players don't spend enough for him to pay someone to work the early hours.

Your average serious pool player is a cheap SOB. Kids spend more money a month on the jukebox, which of course gets turned down as soon as someone pays to hear a song because the serious players don't like music.

Monthly Membership

We had a totally empty Pool Hall (that the owner had done up first class) with just a couple of regulars playing at a cost of $12 per day.
I got the owner to TRY a monthly membership at $30 and now he has a repeating base of 35 players that can play from 11:00-6:00 seven days a week. What I'm trying to do now is have him give discounts on beer from $3 to $2.50, pitchers a dollar off etc.. This would bring in probably another 10 players a month as people will often justify buying another round or two because they are getting a discount and like to stop in to see what's happening.
I don't work there I just like to see the guy make a profit from a dead time period. A thousand bucks a month new business plus food and drink really helps him out. The night times are insane with full tables, people waiting, waitress's running every direction but now he's rounded out his table use.

Fast Eddies Houston

Fast Eddies in Houston has a membership program. For $100 a month you get free pool and bumped up on the list when the house is full. It would be a good deal for me if I went to this particular pool hall more than twice a month....

Shoreline Billiards

The place where I go for league night has a membership, it is something like $75 for free play daily until 6pm (or 7). I haven't looked into it because I only play there for league. I'd do it If I lived closer and didn't have a table at home (with homebrew on tap :D ).

In Queens NY, I know of two pool halls offering monthly membership. One pool hall is 24/7 and charges $200 and the other is 11AM-4AM and charges $60. Both are within 15 minutes walk from each other. Both have tables set aside for players, meaning simonis on tight pocket Gold Crowns with Centennial balls, you simply have to ask.

For reasons I haven't figured out, the $200 pool hall is attracts more players than the $60.

I play out of park avenue billiards in orange park florida and i pay 150 a month im there everyday without fail sometimes for 8-10hrs a day on the only diamond in the house.

ive payed for that thing twice over, and its not like they lose money i still gets drinks and food plus money in the jukebox in there.

Here its like $50.00 for Monday thru Friday and $65.00 for all days.

OMG!! I used to spend at least $500 a month on table time (playing every day) for years! I finally had to stop because I couldn't afford it, so I don't play much anymore. If I could find a deal like they have where you live I honestly would've practiced every minute I wasn't working or sleeping and probably would be a great player. I envy you.
