Dominant hand

I've always found this to be strange to me, and I haven't really given it a second thought until now and how it relates to my pool game. I know that I am left hand dominant, or at least that is what all the dominant hand tests have ever told me growing up. I write with my left hand, i use chop sticks with my left hand, when I played tennis I used my left hand. But I throw objects with my right hand, and believe me when i say I couldn't even through 10 feet if I used my left hand LOL. I punch much harder with my right hand. I can lift more with right hand, and...............i shoot pool with my right hand.

I guess it is what it is, but does anybody know why this is from a scientific point of view. I know im not ambidextrous. I was just wondering because I eventually want to be able to shoot pool with my left hand. I know it will just come down to practicing with my left hand, becoming more comfortable, muscle memory and all. But when I try to build a bridge with my right hand ( the stronger of my hands) the bridge is weaker than a bridge build out of straws of hay LOL. IDK just something I was thinking about and decided to post my thoughts in the moment.

I'm pretty much the same way. Play pool right handed and I write with my right hand. But I do a lot of things with my left, like play guitar and shoot rifles. I can't play pool left handed to save my life.

It is all about the practice. I am right handed and started shooting left handed against weaker players to make it interesting. It took 2 years to get my left hand to the level it took 10 years to get my right hand to. Making the loop bridge was the hard part starting out. Now it is all reflex. I do not think about which hand to shoot with other than which provides for the best bridge or stance at the table.
Recently I cut an 8 ball in at just under 90 degrees and 3 feet from the pocket. I went to shake my opponent's hand and he says with a look of shock,"you shot that left handed!" I looked down to see the cue in my left hand and replied, "I guess I did."

A story from 2001 re Ronnie O'Sullivan,
Snooker: O'Sullivan triumphs left-handed; said:
O'Sullivan, winner of the world-ranking China Open three months ago, displayed rare talent as he completed a 5-1 victory in 94 minutes. At least three-quarters of his shots were played left-handed and the Thais loved it, particularly when he cleared up with a break of 61 in the last frame to seal victory on the pink.
"It wasn't until after I won the UK Championship in 1993 that I realised I could play left-handed to a reasonable standard," said O'Sullivan, the world No 4. "I might carry on playing this way for another year, I'll see how it goes."

Ronnie now breaks off left handed every time.

Efren Reyes also shifts to his left hand seamlessly.

Which eye is dominant? That is the way you should be shooting.

I'm right eye dominant........but to ur response, if u level ur chin on top of the when shooting, whether ur left handed or right handed, ur eye dominance shouldnt matter should it? For example when I'm aiming (I'm right handed when shooting), and I put my chin on top of the cue, my line of sight doesn't change when I close my left eye (maintaining my dominant eye aim).

I am so right handed, there is almost nothing I can do with the left hand. Everything feels awkward. I've practiced a little left handed pool, but it's not good.

I've always admired people who can use both sides with skill. "Switch hitting" is definitely an asset in pool.

I had a feeling you sere going to say your were Right Eye dominant. You do so many things different handed, your brain told you to shoot pool right handed for a reason. Don't question it. But do learn to shoot all of those shots left handed that are just to hard to reach right handed.

I am right handed and left eye dominant. When I was young I played every day and never had any trouble keeping my center of focus. But now that I am 73 years old, if I don't shoot every day I have trouble shooting long straight ins. Learning how to deal with being cross eye dominant is a pain when you get older. It's not a crook.

If I remember right, Steve Mizerak was right-handed but played both golf and pool left-handed.

They try; but, no one has yet come up with an adequate explanation for why some hockey players play with their right hand on the bottom of the stick, ( right shot) and some play with their left hand on the bottom of the stick. ( left shot)

As I wrote...they try. You can poke holes in every theory though.

25% More RH Hockey Players Play Left Sided Golf

You're Too Quick Too Give Up On a Reason.
10 Minutes and I Googled This.........

More Right Handed Hockey Players Play Left Sided Golf Than the General Public.

Why?

Interestingly, Canada has more left-handed golfers than any country in the world. More than 30% of Canadians play golf standing on the oppressive side of the ball. The theory behind this is that Canadian babies, instead of growing up with diapers, teething rings, and rattles, grow up with jock straps for Pampers, pucks for teething rings, and sawed-off hockey sticks as substitutes for rattles. Due to a high percentage of these toothless wonders growing into big, strapping left-wingers with, you guessed it, booming left-hand shots, there is a correspondingly high number of left-handed golfers who wind up terrorizing the links. Interestingly, there are more fights and club infractions that occur on Canadian golf courses as well. i.e. Rule 42-5(b) in the Royal Canadian Golf Association Decisions Book states: A player shall incur a two stroke penalty for sticking his club between an opponents legs as he's about to putt. (c) A player shall incur a five-stroke major penalty for dropping his glove and beating the snot out of his opponent.

If You are a Right Handed and I Ask You to Pickup a Stick You Grab It With Your Right Hand. Correct?
Try It.

Then You Would Push the Hockey Stick With Your Left Hand.
That Same Posistion Is What People Call Left Handed Golf.
It Should Be Called Left Sided Golf or Right Handed Golf.
Your Hand Right Hand is The One Holding the Grip.

I'm Right Handed.
Play Pool Right Handed.
Throw Right.
Bowl Right.
But........
Play Hockey Left Sided.
Bat Left Handed. (Should be Called Left Sided)
Play Golf Left Sided. (I Don't Call It Left Handed)

As a Right Handed Person I Pickup a Bat, Club, Stick With My Right Hand and Play From the Left Side.

.

Im kinda the same way. throw, kick, eat, pool, tennis right handed.
Bat, write, water ski left handed.
I golf with righty clubs but I think I should be left handed, just never tried lefty clubs. I started out golfing crosshanded with RH clubs, a friend told me I better fix it so I did, but I can play almost equally well (bad) crosshanded. Now that I think about it when I played softball I could switch hit pretty much equally. I know I do a lot of everyday things left handed because of the awkwardness of using items made for RH people. I have been practicing pool LH for those hard to reach RH shots, I do pretty well but the bridge still feels awkward. As far as reaching for my cue I use either hand, depends on which is more convenient at the moment. I chalk with left hand (bridge hand) of all things I can not work a cube of chalk with my right hand.

Who knows why you do things certain ways....I don't think it has anything to do with vision.

Cliff Thorburn, the best snooker player to come out of Canada, is left-handed....
...he plays golf and snooker right-handed.

Ben Hogan, still my favorite golfer, played golf right-handed....he was a leftie.

I'm like Chris Tate, extremely right-handed...but played hockey as a leftie.

Haha I'm the same way. I cant work chalk with my left if my life depended on it..... And I can stroke with my left, it's my weak right hand bridge, lol

Baloney...Which hand you hold the cue in has no relationship with dominant eye. Lots of great shooters do not position the cuestick under their dominant eye. The cue should be positioned under where someone "perceives" a straight line. If that's under your dominant eye then put the cue there. If not, put it under where you see a straight line. You still have to have a straight stroke, which also has no relationship to dominant eye.
