Hello.
The following is a review of a Doug Patrick Custom cue I ordered I drew it up and started looking for Cue makers ... Doug was the one that I settled on to make this cue and with his help this is what we came up with so it is really a design that was thought of by both of us in the end. First let me say that Doug is very easy to work with and easy to get a hold of . He has great communication skills and is very easy to access. He also has great customer service.
The cue is Holly in the Butt sleeve ... and points ... Wenge in the Merry Windows and the Forearm... Turqious & White colored veneers , with turqious crosses in the Merry Windows and points...
Two Shafts 12.75 in diameter ... 29 inches long
LBM Ferrells
Butt is 29 inches long
Moori tips ... ( I plan to replace these with Everest tips )
Doug chose the ring work for the cue ...
Radial Pin
The cue is suppose to wiegh in at 19.5 but feels light... I will have to put it on a scale ... But expect it to wiegh in at 19.5.
Ringtail Lizzard wrap...
The joint is Ivory ...
Balance point is 19 inches from the Butt...
Doug has been a pleasure to deal with ... The cue was a little behind on the delivery date ... But honestly that is at my request for him to take his time and get the cue right I asked this of him several times I was in no rush just wanted a good job done. I did not want a rush job and a bungled cue and Doug hit this one very nicely and did an excellent job making any wait well worth it and it was not really much of a wait at all ... All I could do was smile when I took the cue out of the package the finish was very nice and the inlay work sharpe ... The wrap looks and feels good I have gotten alot of compliments on the wrap and the cue. The inlays are nicely done and look natural setting in the cue no complaints there. The veneers again nicely done the cue feels even with no glue lines felt. If I have one thing to change on the cue I might of gone back and put a little more color in the veneers ... But I chose the colors so I'm not complaining I wanted to go with a simple color theme and that is what I have ...
Playability ... I have been using the cue off and on for a week or two ... The cue goes together nicely and everything lines up smoothly ... It has a very nice smooth hit to it like your shooting through the cue ball effortlessly ... It is no wonder Doug finds good players willing to have him for a sponsor and play with his cues. The cue draws the ball well and gets forward english well in fact contact with forward english and you can see the cue ball pickup speed and hit the corner pocket very solid after contact. It gets left and right english just as well it is one of those cues that when you shoot with it you get the confidence you can put the cue ball anywhere on the table you desire. I have a friend who is a cue maker and well known for good cues here on AZ...he came over to my house for the first time last week and asked to see my new Patrick ...He got on my table and put the cue through the test and he did not take it easy on the cue ... I babied the cue because it looks so nice and I shot with it gingerly at first but my friend really put it through the ropes and liked the response and feedback he got from the cue ... He is also a very good player after hitting with it for awhile he liked the cue and the action that it got and he felt Doug did a great job on the cue. He ran the cue ball forward and reversed as I watched he said it sounded like he was slamming the cue ball into the pocket but he was really not hitting it that hard it was the english and feedback the cue ball picked up after contact. I got the same impression when I tested the cue it really responds well , Looks and feels good...
Over all I would give Doug an A on this cue if I were to grade him on it ... I'm very happy with the cue and happy with the way Doug treats his customers. If your thinking of buying a custom ... Doug Patrick is certainly a name to put on your short list ...
Thanks Doug ...
I will post some pics below ...
