DP Dale Perry Cues

I was just looking to get some opinions on Dale Perry's cues. How do they feel/hit? Does anyone have any major issue and/or compliments about the cues? If I am correct, they fall into that semi-custom class. I see them on Ebay and they are in the price range for what I am looking to spend, but I don't know alot about them so I wanted to get some feedback before I made a decision. Thanks
 
I did a refinish on one that was a 10 piece spliced cue, like a Predator P2...the quality seems to be good. That's the only time I've had one in my hands.....

Dale's cues were once one of the hottest things going, commanding top dollar. He made a business decision to increase his production and start selling cues directly on ebay which undercut his dealers and made the value of the cues that folks had paid top dollar for drop dramatically. Now, most cue dealers, IMO, think of Dale's cues like you said, either semi-custom or high end production. The quality isn't what it used to be, but it isn't too bad, although I have spoken with a couple of dealers who might think differently. I still think that they are a real decent buy and definitely better than similarly priced "true" production cues.

I love my DP2. Nice stiff hitting cue. I don't have any major issues w/ mine so far...knock on wood :)

I have three. My 1/1 's look nice and hit great. My
Speedster is decent. IMO if you can get one of
his fancy ones in the $375- $520 range you are
getting a great deal.

Do you consider the ones he sells on Ebay to be some of the fancy ones? I really like the looks of his cues. Most of them at least. They all seem to fall into that $350-$500 range from what I have seen. I am going to keep a closer eye on the ones that end today to see how high they really get.

Side question: Do you know if his Radial shaft is worth the extra expense and what is the main difference?

Yeah, those are his fancy ones. I don't know about
the radial shaft.
 
Ide like to talk to some people that like his stuff !!!!!!!!!! Most of the ones i had needed attention from a real cue mechanic.... Every one i know that has or had one has had the ferrule "pop" off , so i think maybe he isnt using the glue ........... Screw and glue like they say........:D

I had a similar problem with mine that I resold. Both the shafts developed a ping in them and it turned out the ferrules had to be replaced in both shafts. I emailed Dale to see what or if there was anything he would do and didn't even get a reply. Pretty dissapointed in his customer service, or lack there of.

Mine has a buzz in the butt. The shafts and ferrules have always been fine (Once I had him adjust his somewhat harsh default shaft taper, and the default ferrules are linen-based that stain easy) but the butt has always had a slight buzz if knocked off-center. Another cue maker who's looked at it believes it is due to a flat-faced joint between the forearm and the handle that is very slightly loose. (You never hear it buzz when playing, just when you put it down at a slight angle.)

That said I liked how it played and never got round to sending it back to be fixed when I first noticed it. I finally got another good playing cue, but as it had been 2 years I'd had the cue DP told me it would not be fixed for free. He quoted me $200 to repair it when the whole cue only cost $300, so needless to say I'll not be sending it back. I'll not be buying another DP cue either.
 
Dan & Squared, how long did you have those cues
before the problems started? You guys have me worried
now!

Pass up this guy. I'm going after him and his satisfaction guarantee. He sent me a piece of junk like I'm an idiot or something. Says I own it now. I sent it right back. Now I've got a fight on my hands to get my $950 back. I did a little investigating and found out that I'm not the only victim out there. This is a quote from an e-mail I got from an az member.

I feel your pain ... I truly hope he is finally put out of business on eBay and
anywhere else he sells cues ... He is scum-of-the-earth. I no longer have the
pictures of the damages cue he sold me, but I can easily remember the entire
story of what transpired after the sale ... Good luck in your efforts to get your
money back ...

i have one of his cues and the hit and the way it plays is good. it has the radial shaft. i also have a dpr shaft for it , wich is his version of the predator and that shaft hits better than any predator that i have playd with. hey pooldogue, i'll send tank the dale perry and you 2 can try it out and give your opinions while i try out the tasc. dound good??? :D :D
i also had no problem with him and customer service. when i got the dpr shaft he kept in contact, put on a new tip on the non dpr and shipped it when he said. all good. but.... i know there are alot of people that have been pimped by him so i know he's no angel. just my opinion. and if ya want a nice dp at a good price, e mail me and i'll send ya some info. satisfaction garuntee:D or your money back minus shipping and pay pal. don't get no better than that. later

The hit, I'm told, is similar to Scruggs but I can't tell the difference so I'm no judge. They don't look as good as a Scruggs but they ain't the price either. :)

Never had any customer service issues as described by others. Only top notch thus far.

I recently bought a DP cue for under $200 on ebay. Nice looking purpleheart, nothing very fancy. Workmanship seems very good. I'd say it has a stiff hit, but I like it.

I feel like I got a great value, and would consider buying another DP someday.

I have a lot of nice cues: Mottey, Bender, Kikel, Olney, Josey.
But the 3 I've decided I like the best are Scruggs, DP, & Shurtz.
All 3 have a very similar hit in my opinion.
