I know I have been out of the loop with Northwest pool since I moved to Bakersfield but when did Dr. Cue's close? I just read about it on the current online issue of The Break?

What are Matt and Jeff doin now? Did it get slow in there? Its tough to keep people in the door without a Jillians/Garage/Belltown Billiards theme I guess.

Well, R.I.P. Dr. Cue's..you will be missed. :(

I was just there not that long ago....

They didn't seem like they were in trouble??? oh well.

Actually I think it had allot to do with the new Pool Hall in Kenmore about 4 miles down the road. It is called "Russian Daves" and is sporting all diamonds and they only charge $2.50 an hour... who wouldn't drive 4 miles to save $2 bucks...

Its always sad when a long time establishment closes

Didnt get to Dr Cues very often.(live an hour away) Its sad to see it closed. I was just at Russian Daves last night, trying to get used to the tables due to the upcoming NWPA event this weekend. Daves tables are beautiful and play almost perfect. Hard to compete with his inexpensive table time. Dr Cues Im sure will be missed by many in the area.

Yeah I forgot about Russian Dave's. I have not been there yet. Maybe next time I visit Seattle.

It's not that they went out of business, it's that they didn't do anything to stay in business, that's the problem. They new "The Golden Fleece" or Dave's was coming, and did nothing to change what they were doing to take on the new challenger....like start selling beer/wine??????? I've said it before, if rooms don't do something to keep up with the customers wants, then someone's going to come along and do just that, and Dave's did. NO ONE owns the customers, and they WILL decide to go where they feel most wanted, and Dave's was that place. I knew that the minute I found out the tables were going to Kenmore, I gave Cue's a year to either change for the better, or go busted. Guess I was right...LOL

PS. The Jillians/Garage/Belltown Billiards theme couln't hurt Dave's even if they wanted to, as they don't share the same type of customers anyway, but Dr. Cues did.

They fought so hard to keep Dave's business from encroaching (by the way, Dave is from Georgia and hates being called Russian Dave). I thought the clientele was going to be different in the 2 places, since Dr. Cue's catered to the young ones and the gamblers mainly took the front camera table. But in this economy, every little bit helps the wallet, so I guess they needed to close.

I will miss them too, even though I no longer live there. I won a couple weekend tournaments there and have fond memories of their Tuesday nighter where I got to polish off some of the big names every now and again.

I also wonder what Matt and Jeff will do. They were great owners. :(

I thought the grapevine had it that the building was going to be sold anyways...and the Dr Cue's crew did not want to deal with locating and moving to a new location...but that is the grapevine.

Lotsa folks are raving about the Golden Fleece...I may have to check it out.

I used to play in there all of the time in the early 90's.

Great place, sad to hear of it closing.

Dave place is just awesome.

I should've known that it would mean the demise of Dr. Cue's. oh well. Dave is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. When I was there we played until about six or seven am and he didn't charge me since I was playing with him. The only problem I had with the place was that it was cash only, but hell, what pool players, (besides me) don't have cash on them at all times?

Jaden

I'll be going back up there in about three weeks, if any of you northwesternerswant to play some.

I'm going to be there this weekend for the NWPA event. But have Dave tell you about the time we played before he opened and we played 9-ball, 1 hole, and straight pool. He is a great 9 ball player, but I got him on the tactical games. I lapped him in straight pool. ;)

He is so nice and unassuming and I am glad his business is getting nothing but great reviews. He always said that his poolroom was for pool players, that he would keep table time low...he is not out to make a profit, since it is not his main source of income.

PM me with when you will be up. I have been traveling so much that I am never home to get the garage ready. In fact, I am leaving in an hour for Eugene, then Portland, then Seattle. Carina is turning 21 this weekend!!!
