It was always 760 since the early 1990’s except two times. The owner tried 860 once about 15 years ago. All the players hated it, because it was too slow. So he went back to 760. About 5 years ago he tried a Simonis knockoff. I forget which one. That lasted one recovering, and it’s been 760 since.
The players in this room are all serious and we prefer 760 for this room. There is a creek nearby, and I believe it makes the cloth slower. My personal opinion after playing in the Philly area for 25 years, is the speed in this room on 760 is equivalent to the speed in other Philly area rooms that usually had 860 on their tables. The main games in this room are one hole, 9 ball, and straight pool.
The carom tables always had Simonis 300 carom cloth on them.
Agree with your observations. The Simonis knock off he put on was Championship cloth and it was like playing on ice. The carom tables are heated also and both play well but it seems the one closest to the back wall does not play as well as the other.
