As a new player some of my favorite posts on here are the WEI table drills. Inspired by DCP's recent thread, please post up some of your favorite practice drills! No specific subject required, just something to do besides play a set.

THANKS!

here's one of the first drills Tom "Dr Cue" Rossman had me doing. is also the first shot Scott Lee had me shoot when he stopped by.

set up this simple shot, and shoot it three different ways - Follow, Stun, Draw.

if you can follow scratch into the side pocket and hit the middle of the side pocket, that tells you that you are 1) aligned properly, 2) aiming properly, 3) stroking properly. if you miss the pocket with the cue ball, thats a problem. if you follow scratch into either side of the side pocket (where A & B are) then you still have a slight mechanical or stroke problem.

same way with stun. if you drift to the side, you have a mechanical/stroke problem.

same way with drawing back into the opposite side pocket. if you hit the center, that is good. if you miss it to either side or altogether, you have a problem.

hope this might benefit you.

CueTable Help

I truly enjoy the L drill, it's somehow just out of my reach to finish it.

I'd illustrate it but I'm sure y'all have seen it. Make an L out of all the balls, half of them in a line from the head spot to the short rail and the the other half from the head spot to either long rail. Shoot the shot nearest the short rail first and just continue along the line. Each time the cue ball should hit 1 rail, or maybe 2 depending. If you have to play it some other way, it's ok, but don't bump into any other balls.

It's harder than it looks and I'm always feeling pressed to try harder to complete it. It's tough enough that you won't just jump up and do it and then repeat it or move on. You're gonna want to try it over and over until you at least get one arm of the L.

Once you get past the "shoot the same shot 50 times" drills...try these out.

Posts#1 & 8 detail two different drills I try to do occasionally. I've learned a lot about my stroke from videotaping myself trying to run these scenarios.

Neil's comments in the thread were especially enlightening.

I use to have fairly structured drills that I ran daily. I now choose a shot that has been given my problems and shoot it until I can shoot it 7 out of 10 times. Sometimes this can take a couple hours and get frustrating. If it gets too frustrating, I'll take a break.
