Drinking and pool

I got really good practicing in my basement drinking scotch... I never drank to get wasted, I did have really bad back pains and I would drink to ease the pain and get "loose" enough to where I can be effective, then I just maintained. The key here was that I did this at home, it's cheaper than the bar and safer than driving there or back for that matter.

Nowadays, I just deal with the pain best I can. A good session at the gym prior to playing works wonders. A 4-7mile 1hour jog and some back exercises really help ease the pain for enough time to last at the pool table for 7-10 hours.

Very few can play at the top of their game after a few drinks. They think they can, but they can't. I treated pool as a part time job I could party at. Of course I never played anyone better than me that could beat me for much. I was a nit and have the money to prove it. Johnnyt

Drinking while playing used to go hand in hand, now I am sober (1 year this month) and I have to say I play much better. It took a few months to get my confidence back but I enjoy the game a whole lot more and do not have the "I was drunk" excuse to fall back on after a loss.

I also know about the 2 to 4 rule, I was a 4 to 6 player.

Try not drinking and see where your game leads you, you might be surprised.

I also enjoy not being a detriment to myself and everyone on the road after playing. I was a horrible, drunk a-hole. Now I'm just an a-hole.

Detriment how? Unless you hurt yourself or someone else while drinking you weren't a detriment to anything but your liver.

Personally, if I am in any kind of a serious playing situation, I do not drink to excess. I'll generally drink Miller light, but will only end up having a couple.

When I'm home or goofing around with friends, I don't keep track, but I'm not a falling down drunk and when I reach a certain point I stop. I just don't like dealing with the hangover.

One or two Miller Lites over the course of the evening works for me. Course, I don't gamble anymore. Just league play or fooling around with friends. But it seems to calm me down and I play better.
