Drivermaker Holiday Tournament coming soon???

Sniper had a good idea. Perhaps a sub-forum that would contain not just the scores, but threads to encourage interest, participation, and woofing - all integral parts of any quality tournament. As we get closer, I'll ask AZHousepro what he thinks (unless he's listening now).

OK, I read the original rules from the link posted by DaveK. I can do 50 racks between Thanksgiving and Christmas because my low scores will take little time to complete.

We used to have a table at work and do this with 10 racks of 10 ball ghost & post the results on a bulletin board (b-i-h after the break, must shoot in numeric order).

The penalty for placement of the CB after break is fine, but the placement options have my head spinning a bit - with this many options, especially that one with the triangle (swing it round the cue ball to make a big circle) you can put the CB anywhere - or at least somewhere good!

I am in. Where do I send my scores?

I assume that there will be all manner of tall tales of derring do associated with this, right?

You can just post your scores right here and believe it or not, it seems most if not all were brutally honest last year.

I created a spreadsheet that may help with scoring and I'll link it up when this gets going.

Those cue ball placement options deserve to be understood. It was apparent to me last year after 20 racks or so that some of my earlier decisions were wrong. Since the event doesn't start right away I'd suggest trying a few racks and play with the various options ... there are no practice racks after the DM Invimemorasic starts, all must be recorded.

Yes there will be tales, and possibly some heckling when someone (likely me) tries to hide a '1' or '2' deep in their list ;)

Hey, any thoughts on which would be better
1. going with the same points system thus having 1000 points as max.
2. doubling the points (+ and -) to maintain the 2000 point scoring system for semi comparison purposes?

Ronoh,
The "tournament" was a virtual event. Everyone just does the 50 racks (we did 100 last year) in the privacy of their own home or tavern; then posts the scores - we kept running scores last year just to see how people were coming along. We have a STRICT honor system (er... ?ronoh system?) - you are only fooling yourself if you fudge - the prizes aren't that great.

You blew it Willie....I was gonna tell him we were all meeting at Chin-Nook Billiards in Korea...I am sure he would have fell for it.... :D

In the defense of the nearly 2900 members that did not participate in the Drivermaker Holiday Invitational last year,it was understandable. It was an undertaking that required at the minimum …guts, backbone, heart and cahones to participate. As we all know this planet is infested with gutless wonders that are powerless to step up and walk the talk, that all too common condition becomes painfully apparent when a defining moment presents itself. The Drivermaker Holiday Invitational is such a moment. For those of you that did not participate last season, you have lived with the shame, hopefully the offending condition that prevented participation last year has cleared up and redemption is near …all that needs to be done is step up and rumble with the AZ elite in The Drivermaker Holiday Invitational. For those of you that did not get that much needed spine transplant or the cahone donor failed to came through and you don’t play again this year it’s understandable …the world is fill of spineless, gutless, no heart blowhards. You won’t be in good company but there will be lots of it.

For those of you that have what it takes to answer the bell.

Let’s get ready to RUMBLE!!!

BnR-man,
Damn, you are right. I suppose now he will be disappointed that he didn't get to meet my wife, Morgan Fairchild.

Breakup,
Well, you have COMPLETELY captured the spirit of this tournament. I could not possibly have summed things up any better. If there are any "spirit" awards to be given for this monumental tournament, you are DEFINITELY the front runner.

It was almost like reading one of DM's posts.

Ok, I just read the rules. I will play. What now is going to be the start and end date? If we have something to donate is that where the prizes come from? I am sure I can find something pool related or even something funny like and white elephant kind of gift. :p

DaveK,
I'm wondering if we should change the cue ball placement options a little to make it less complicated. In a version of Bowlliards that Allen Hopkins also devised, the rule after the break is that you can shoot from where the cue ball rests; or you can take cue ball in hand in the kitchen (and can shoot balls that are in the kitchen or out). Short, simple, to the point. If you scratch on the break its just cue ball in hand in the kitchen. Pretty simple.

There isn't an official start date but it looks like we might start on thanksgiving and have it run until New year's giving everybody plenty of time to complete 50 racks.

Oh and just for the record, everybody can play reguardless of what equipment you play on, everybody just lists the equipments specs that they played on (table size, pocket size) so that everybody can see.

Who's DM? ;)

I might as well give it a go, but I think I'll find a more generous table than the one I've been practicing on which is 9', 4.5" (or roudabout) pockets with grippy rail cloth.
