Drivermaker Memorial Holiday Tournament (mid year reminder)

breakup

Just a reminder that the DMMHT is just a little over 4 months away. As I recall Williebetmore kicks it off around Thanksgiving and is a strict TD. As the veterans well know this tournament is not for the faint of heart or ill prepared. Here is a reminder of a few common things that might need to be addressed early.

-If you need to find foster homes for your children during the holiday season it’s not to early to get started.

-If you need to build up brownie points with your significant other to allow for the time to participate, you know what to do.

-Any elective surgery that needs to be performed better get it done now.

- Four legged members of the family will need to have food and shelter provided during the DMMHT, start preparing early.

-The DMMHT is during a period of high absenteeism at most work places (Thanksgiving - New Year). Get your leave request in early or start fabricating a plausible series of “sick” excuses. If you need to start sucking up to the boss get some comfortable knee pads.

I’m sure I forgot many important issues but everyone knows what they need to do so they don’t get caught with the embarrassing stigma of “non-participant”

Just a mid year reminder

cheers

The true test of breakup's coercion, threatening, cajoling, peer pressure, man(woman)hood challenging skills will be if he can get sjm to participate! :p

Hey, sjm, you can modify the rules so if you play a really nasty safety on yourself, you lose 2 points (4 points on the last 5 balls), but you get to keep shooting. :D

Here are a few pics from last year's action. Enjoy.

Thanks Hal, that really gets the juices flowing

In my haste in the previous post I overlooked a couple of important subjects

Incarceration:

If you anticipate that you will be incarcerated during the tournament make every effort to plea bargain for an institution that has a pool table (regulation 9 foot preferred).

If you are currently incarcerated bribery may be required to gain access to billiard equipment. The earlier you start the better your chances.

If you are currently wanted by authorities and are on the run the required sets can be split up between numerous pool halls. There is no requirement to play all sets on the same table. (WBM correct me if I’m wrong)

Controlled Substance issues:

If you require some type controlled substance to participate please be sure to stockpile an adequate amount. A good rule of thumb is estimate how much you will need and multiply by 4, that way when you use twice as much as you expected you still have twice as much as you need.

Education:

If you will be in school be sure to identify someone that you can convince to take your finals for you if need be. Women players may have some additional leverage in the arena, just be creative.

P.S. Scott …yes it would be exciting to see sjm on the list …maybe a little bribery this year is in order.

The DMMHT...

Geez,

Is it almost that time already?...my, my, my how time fly's when your trying to get the Masters Blue out from under your finger nails! :D

Well, I've been in Skool since the last outing, (thx seiyaru55 for that keen reminder of my luke warm performance!)...think I'm old enough to smoke now...shooting for, 'close but no cigar'...we shall see...maybe I make 'a mighty fine showing'...

Everybody, get your excuses in order, focus, stay down and follow through!

Cheers to breakup for the witty guilt trip, (uh I mean reminder!) ;)

LOL...maybe we should get WBM to add Global Warming to the list...it is gettin' a little hot to play pool ya know...

When its really hot during winter... well... i think we'll have better things to worry about other than the DMHT lol.

I hope to up myself to at least 700 this year. Also gonna try to get on a 9 footer instead of the 8.

Smorg,
I think you neglected to mention that he was a shining example to all internet posters of dignity, courtesy, restraint, politeness, and political correctness. I believe he gave it all up to pursue missionary work in the Congo.

Or perhaps he was just some guy on the internet.

Scott,
I know for a fact that sjm plays golf; and THERE'S NO DEFENSE IN GOLF (well, unless breakup and I should play).

On the other hand, he does have limited pool time; and there are much easier targets for ridicule and castigation. He is of course welcome to play.

breakup,
Though it pains me to say it (you know, like it pains you to put your foot in a vise and twist it really, really tight); you have certainly captured the spirit of the tournament. Your advice on early preparation is sound and reasonable (perhaps you copied it from some book).

I will say though, that "embarrassing stigma" is perhaps too understated a term. I have always felt that "non-participant" was more an eternal stain on the character of said "non-participant"; a shame that could never be erased (akin to one of those big black birthmarks on your forehead with a big horn growing out of it).

Anyway...no pressure on the rest of you guys to participate. Just imagine having breakup on your case for the rest of your life; I'm sure you won't mind.

P.S. - In case anyone doubts the value of participation, I can nearly guarantee there will be another "Q-Skill Challenge Giveaway Event" at the 2007 DCC AZB room. The DMMHT is GREAT practice for this event. Breakup has probably forgotten; but in 2006 I won that Giveaway Event (using the skills developed during the first 2 DMMHT's); used the funds to purchase raffle tickets for the Celebrity Scotch Doubles Tournament; won the raffle (scrupulously run by a forum member with morals beyond reproach); and ended up playing on the television table with Efren Reyes as partner against Jeanette Lee and mthornto. All in all an above average evening of pool - ready and waiting for the proficient Q-Skills challenge player.

I will definitely play this year as I won't have to worry about school. Unfortunatley I wasn't able to play last year for a couple reasons, first I joined in December, Exams and I was dead at the time.:D

If I recall correctly, you used an incorrect scoring method. Therefore making your entire score suspect.

LOL, yeah i got it confused but i was shure to correct it and which i did therefore making my score what it was brutally honest.

I been practicing this last week (until my neck gave out) and this game still amazes me the power it has for forcing me to concentrate. By the time I was done with a few racks, I was pooped. Damn....must be getting old or something.

Technique: I looked at some of my old scores and I had waaaay too many 10s. So lately I've decided that a 10 is unacceptable. A 9 is even better!!!...but NEVER a 10....NEVER. This has helped me get past the first stage and into the rotation stage with more efficacy. Try that, it might help those of us who should've stayed in school (less than 10 avg.).
