To use or not is your personal choice, and if you use, and get locked up I would say you did it to yourself.

Meth is very popular in many places in the US, look term Meth you seems to screw people up.

Even relative crime free countries like Singapore have a drug problems, but the penalties are very stiff like a single sky dance.

a look at "outlaw" drugs

Most of the illegal pills, coke, and such have never seen the inside of a legal laboratory. Right now many of you are going, "well . . . . duh dude!" But there is a reason for making that point. The same people that are making this crap to make a buck or even sprinkling a little magic dust on a lousy load of weed are breaking the law, usually risking lives, to make a buck. They have already decided to risk hard time for the almighty dollar. They aren't too concerned with what they actually put on the street or how they make it. Ecstasy is a fine example. Ecstasy is killing mainly because of the things added to it to make it more popular. However you don't get a breakdown of what is in a hit, you buy "ecstasy".

You roll the dice every time you buy street drugs. You only have to come up craps once. Not a game I like.

yes but alcohol isn't a drug per se; (snip)

Lol...You admitted you know little about drugs, so perhaps you better just leave it at that...or educate yourself more.

Ethanol is a "drug," to use the common word. It is a substance that affects the mind. There are lots of things that affect the mind, some drugs, some other things.

Here's a voice of reason argument: Values are subjective. Therefore, the choice of affecting one's mind is better left up to the individual.

A question I often ask control-freaks is: Why do you think I shouldn't be able to control MY mood? And the logical follow-up: Would you shoot me if I used [cigarettes] (or whatever substance the control-freak thinks should be prohibited by law)?

I have been around pool since 85 with a 14 year retirement from pool rooms, but the years I was in the pool rooms that was all I did all day everyday so I saw alot of everything and people trusted me and would do things openly because i wasnt a stranger thus why I stated my pool room experiences(I never put private biz in the streets-alot of people here know that about me, i'm proud to say). Anyways in the 80's everyone but me it seemed did coke, I am scared to death of it. I havent ever smoked a joint, done acid, meth, crack, anything but I have done ecstasy several times in my life and recommend it to everyone its not addictive and you learn alot about your self, doing it at home not in a club. And until my back went bad pain pills, they were fun for the first 2 weeks now I hate them but have no choice. I noticed alot of pills in the pool rooms these days EVERYWHERE I go, it seems to be the new pool players drug of choice. Everyone has a reason, I have a 14" long scar to prove my reason and I will be off them the day I get pain free I hate them. I hardly ever drink i havent got drunk since 99, I dont like booze. I did all the roids when I was bodybuilding and believe me pain pills are 50X worse, the media has the roid thing all blown out of porportion.

So all this lead me to wonder who here is on drugs? booze dosent count. Dosent matter if you need them or not I just wonder what % of pool players, rail birds, degenerate AZ'ers(me) etc. take drugs for what ever reason. This isnt to judge people, belittle pool players, I do and admit it, I have no choice, I didnt put an option "no I never will" because I said that then my back problems changed that. I will never do coke, meth etc. But yes I'm a drug user not an abuser.

I hope this poll dosent upset anyone, but from what I have seen since 85 the % has to be high(no pun). Personally I dont have a problem with anyone using drugs as long as they dont push them on me or do bad things for Drug $$$.

I joined the Coast Guard 11 years ago to get myself out of Victorville, Ca. It was the best decision I ever made. Crystal Meth was huge there before it was very well known in other parts of the country. I found myself getting caught up with that scene hanging out in all the local pool halls and bars. I've tried pretty much everything and can say I am pretty lucky not to have gotten so deep into drugs as some others I hung out with. I can honestly say that meth is the worst of the bunch.
I totally concur with Fatboy about Ecstasy, that was the best. Mushrooms were great as well.

As a forensic psychologist, I know many many people who use drugs and would caution those who advocate drug use that this is a public forum and that young pool players read on this forum. You all know who goes to pool halls so please consider your comments.

A few facts

In 70% of the homicides there is alcohol in the offender, the victim or both. Alcohol is probably the single most dangerous drug in our society when viewed from the perspective of the amount of suffering it produces.

70 - 90% (depending on the prison) of the men in prison are addicted (or heavy users) to an illegal drug: And I mean currently addicted. Well over 60% (I do not have the figures in front of me right now) of convicts were addicted or heavy users at the time of the crime for which they are incarcerated.

Studies have definitely led to the conclusion that marijuana is a gateway drug.

Recreational drugs such as Ecstasy and related materials often (no stats currently available from me) have been the cause of serious emotional problems that require years of therapy.

If you use drugs, that is your business, do not advocate it here where there are impressionable people.

This is not a rant, it is a request for simple adult responsibility.

Educated drug use in real and applied in every day life a million times a day.

MDMA actually got it's first real exposure as a therapy aid....and is starting to garner the same attention today. The experince of a roll really cannot be explained in words, if have tried it you know what I am takling abut...your mind opens up on levels that you didnt even know existed.

You are completley lucid during the trip and everything sticks with oyu afterward. You walk away with a new outlook and life is somehow eaiser.

now I am not talking about the club kid who drops 6 pills in a night just to get f'ed up. Proper use of the drug is the key, therefore educated use is the most important thing.

I always find it funny when a unknowing non user tosses critics at something that they have never ever even come close to gainning knowledge on ...

Go check out some Dan Stanhope or even our own Joe Rogan....those guys have interesting . and entertaining, ideas about drug use ...

and dont forget the REV. Bill Hicks.....

Amen to that, I lerned more about me using MDMA that I could have in a shrinks ofice in 5 years, they are stiil doing clinical trials with wemon who were raped when they were teens, the shrinks dont like it because they can peel away layers of pain in 2-3 MDMA sessions that would take years with out it, And they need the billing for yers not a few drug enhanced sessions that willl help heal a person faster until you have done it you just dont understand it,

And yes there have been deaths with popping X pills because they do add speed into them for the people who like to go clubbing on them its a totally different thing. So when you buy pills you do run a risk of getting speedy ones, but usually its disclosed up front. I did them once and hated it.

"70% of homicides"

I take issue with that quote because it is to simple in it's assesment and to powerful in it's declaration.

Acohol to what level.... did it count in the study if a person had a .01 BAC??? or does it refer to everyone was shitfaced???

See.. the way you pull data out of any given study just depends oh what you are looking for....

I imagine that there were far more attackers and victims with caffine in there systems than there were ones with booze... does that mean caffine is tied to murder???

Sorry joe .. Drugs arent bad ... there are FAR FAR FAR more folks who use in a resopnsible matter.. or who have used as recreatation in the past .. than there are additcs...

Some people are addictive... it doesnt matter if they smoke weed in JR high or wait until their 30's to do a line. They turn into smack heads and crack whores.... BUT................all of their buddies go on to lead useful and productive lives, either with or without drugs...

Once again y'all ... I dont do any type of "drug"....
But I would never want to forget my experinces.. both good and bad.. I am actually a better person b/c of my escapades to the darkside of the moon...:D

I am not defending the use of hard drugs. I don't use them and don't want to.

But i have met people in pool and out, that use hard drugs (meth coke etc) that are as nice as they can be. They do not steal, hurt people, or lie anymore than everyone else does. they also go to work full time, and take care of their families. I believe some people call this being self medicated.
I don't understand what makes these people not turn bad like so many drug users do, but we are all different. Sometimes chemical imbalances are natural. That could be part of the reason.

Again, not saying I agree with drug use. Just an observation

In defense of my currently active colleagues, throughout the health professions. Most, perhaps 80%, of the "private" drug addicted people I worked with did not pay for therapy. They usually did not have any money. Approximately 50% of my private patients did not pay for services. Health insurance usually pays for one hour of therapy. My sessions usually lasted two hours and patients knew to telephone anytime night or day in the middle of a problem. While I charged $100.00+ per hour, I earned as little as $10.00 per hour for the number of hours worked. Sixty to eighty hour work weeks were usual becasue of patient needs.

Throughout many of the health professions, where people make a good living, the unwritten rule is 75% - 25%. That is, if you are a member of a good group of professionals who refer to each other the expectation is that one in four people are not charged. To allow people to maintain their self respect we would write down their welfare information and then throw it away after they left. I do not know of any other business that operate in this way.

With regard to the ignorance of therapists the reasoning should also be applied in other areas as well.

You don?t go to a mechanic, you do not consult an engineer, and a physician certainly does not know how to heal your body.

Just because you own a brain and a mind does not mean that you know how to fix it.

Just because you are physically able to have children does not mean that you know how to raise children or live in a relationship with the other sex.

Because you went through childhood, it does not make you an expert on childhood.

Recommending MDMA use to "everyone" is dumb. MDMA and its parent drugs cause brain damage. You need to do some research about the drugs you're recommending to "everyone."

Come on nut,
IF used.. not abused...in a moderate amount under a supervised safe enviorment (purchased from a verified source) MDMA does not cause brain damage or death.... no study has ever made that link...EVER

Then again that depends on how you define brain damage...drinking a few brews actually causes brain damage in the sense that brain cells are harmed....

booze is the worst drug of all that is consumed on a large/wide scale, nobody smokes weed and beats up their wife, robbs a 7-11, crashes their car, vomits in the wrong place with people watching, the list goes on. But the law makers like their booze so its still legal-hyprocrcy at its finest. have fiend who is a cop in Vegas and a stone cold drunk, scary too he had a bad attitude so he drinks himself numb everynight.

JoeW is a very brilliant man(and I consider him a friend) but he is book smart and that is something to be proud of, I admire his intellectial perspective on things, and his spelling, I couldnt spell befor I did ectacy, it helped alot of things in my life I did it with the girl I love and we told eash other everything good or bad, its like truth syrup, you cant lie when your on it and there is no shame ot guilt, you remember everything the next day and then you have to find a way to accept her, it brought us closer to gether than any girl I have ever been with, i didd it with another girl and the same thing happened, but I knew she was too young but it was fun.

Weed being a gate way drug might hold some water(but ver little maybe 20%) but I bet more people have had alchil before they smkoed weed, so whats the gate way here? i refuse to smoke it period, I have been around people in the earily 90's and they were getting high I would pass the joint and couldnt wait to get it out of my hands. I am discussed by it, but you never hear of vilonce or car crashes because of weed, who get stoned and bets up their kids/wife?

I did X because I was intrigued by it, i wasnt a kid in a club there were 4 of us at the Luxor about 9 years ago and my friend brought it, it was planned, mine had speed in it and it ws awaful , i was watching Jay Leno , talking and wanted to play slot machines to watch the reels spin, i NEVER play them, I didnt that night. I gave it one more chance 6-8 months later and it was heaven on earth, I learned so much about myself, my girl, us, our problems(not many) because we didnt hold anything back and were able to come to terms with who we are and what we want and where were going, I dont recommend it to kids to party under any circumstance, but for 2 adults to sit in a room and talk one on one it opens up so much private stuff you become closer. It isnt addictive, If I never did It again I wouldnt care, the next day yeah your down and out, a few times it was a its tetrrable day, bit that has only happened 2 times in 9 years maybe 8.

No I dont encourage anyone to do drugs as a kid, that is a death sentance, alchol being the worst, I had a friend a EMT for a ambulance company in Vegas she worked the strip, abot 1/3 of he calls were spousal abuse, the man beating up the woman because she maxed out the credit cards chasing the $$$ she lost, the genders can be reversed, there are bad things happining behind tose pretty lights.

I have felt no change in me after doing Xa a number of time, the pain pills are ruiing my life but its impossible for me not to use them, my body is phsically addicted, if I dont take them I feel terrible, thats why I dont use stronger ones and limit my daily intake no matter how bad I feel. was vert reluctant to start them until it ws unbearable as it is now, this has been going on for years,..

i'll writh a post on roids if anyne is interested, the Govt has them all blown out of porportion, they smoke, drink martinis and say how bad roids are, they havent ever been in shape and know nothing about them, they are deah sentance if mis used, its funn in the media they say "He abused roids" its awalys the "abuse "thing that pi$$es me off. With proper use and regular blood tests(hormone panels) there is little risk, if any. Now the guys who over use them can get introuble fast,

everything is about using drugs responsibly, its impossible to use coke, meth, lsd, and heavy drugs, like IV shots of heroine. I have very famous friend(celebrty on TMZ constantly) who is addicted to opium, he is 23 and done, its a shame to see that.

Say no to Drugs. I will chane my post to recommend what I said, sorry if I offended anyone.

Big money/Hard drugs not so much. the speedier stuff like meth and coke just gives ya a twitch and decreases muscle focus..

but 2 or 3 beers, or a few bats of decent green can and does calm the nerves and softens out an erratic stroke. and makes you more fluid,

but too much, like the 18th or 19th beer you lose muscle control... thats true for me , but I do know a few guys who get better with heavy drinking... like 7 or 8 tall and heavy mixed drinks. and they don't miss ... I believe they are a very small minority but they do exist.

What's green can?

Not from a study, but an interesting quote from someone who should know:

Dr. Rod Irvine, of the University's of California's Department of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology, says with an increased use of ecstasy among young people, major health problems can be expected in the future.

"For many years it has been known from animal experiments that small doses of ecstasy - even if only taken on only a few occasions - can cause severe damage to certain brain cells," Irvine said in a news release. "More recently, evidence has started to accumulate suggesting that this damage may also occur in humans. If our suspicions are proved correct, it will mean many of our young people will have memory loss or psychological problems in the future."

Nut,
I read the first line and it kinda took some luster off your find
NIDA-supported study has provided the first direct evidence that chronic use of MDMA,
Chronic use is not what I am talking about

As had been found in the brain imaging study, MDMA's harmful effects were dose-related?the more MDMA people used, the greater difficulty they had in recalling what they had seen and heard during testing
Dose realted .. see what I am saying...

Also another question is when were the test conducted... a few hours after a roll you are pretty much hung over... however a few days/weeks is a different story...
