Does a dry break against the ghost count as a win for the ghost or do you keep shooting?

I take bih and start shooting. Unless you're svb, if u played the 10 ball ghost having to pocket a ball on the break you'd lose every time.

Most people play "it doesn't matter what happens on the break" your first shot is still BIH. That means even if you fly the CB off the table on the break you still start with BIH.

If you are gambling with someone, make sure you are crystal clear on the rules. But when playing it for practice, its usually the above BIH no matter what.

You can make up any rules you want, playing Casper, he don't give a fuuk, knows he's getting out if he gets to the table.

I play that a scratch is a loss but dry break I take BIH and begin. Many variants - if I really want a test I will play the ghost without BIH.

Cheers,
Gerry

I have often wondered about this. Also if you scratch on the break is it a loss? I always take bih and go any way but wondered what others thought

I'd call it a loss with 9b + magic rack or some similar setup.
That's kind of strict but really there's no reason to miss the break shot.
For other games, I'd allow dry breaking.

I think jumping the cue ball off the table on the break should be a loss, just my opinion.

As for scratching, how about straight into the pocket is a a loss, but being kicked in, is a bad roll, so you still get BIH?

I think if you are at the point where scratching a popping a cueball of the table (unless this is something happening all the time and you are Presently working on it) is the reason you are loosing to the ghost, move on up to the next level 10 ball or so on. Becuase you are real good if so JMO...

Yes - I consider the ball off the table a scratch. Have to be careful because my dog might not like it either :)

BiH

It's BiH most of the time. If you want to be a tough guy (not so...:P), any scratch from the break can become 1/2 game for casper.
I play BiH in any situation and from time to time when my game gets bigger... (like ever....) I try to run the rack w/out BiH:P

If you beat the ghost with break and no BIH, you should be on the Mosconi team.

Break and BIH is the standard. If that's too easy just spot the ghost a game or two.

I can beat the 8 ball ghost but not the 9 ball ghost. For some reason it is a huge jump in difficulty for me. Plus, that bastard sharks me. I play the standard rules; Magic Rack, soft break and BIH after the break regardless of scratching. But, I've added one extra temporary rule. If I break and run the rack as is without BIH then I get two games for the win. As soon as I get close to taking the win, the little people in my head start talking me down. (I think the ghost has turned them into double agents against me.)

Once I can consistently beat that sharking ghost in a long race with those rules then I'll play him with the standard rules.
