Dry eyes

After laser surgery my left eye has not been seeing well. I used drops with not much success.

At WalMart the other day I went to buy some more drops and next to this I found a vitamin type supplement made especially for dry eyes. Sorry the name escapes me, but it is a pill with Omega 3 (?), FISH OIL, vitamin A etc.

I only mention this because my eyes now feel like they have had a lube job and I CAN SEE GREAT AGAIN. And to think that my idiot eye doctor wanted to put plugs in my eyes for a grand - I could almost guy back and strangle the guy, especially after asking him if there was anything I could do naturally that would help my tearing.

Sorry to hear that. It isn't abnormal, unfortunately

A pill? Do you take it daily? Did you ask your doctor, by chance? If there's no side affects, that's great news for everyone who might have the same issues.

To be fair, the plug is a proven procedure that doesn't require extra pills. But, I'll pass on the fish oil pill to the few people I know that have the dry eye syndrome.

I guess this might belong in the non-pool related thread.

How long ago was your surgery?

Mine were dry for few months and I had the halo's too - then they gradually came around and were just fine. This was roughly 5 years ago. I just used the natural tears saline - it worked ok.

My left eye is still better than 20/20, my right eye slipped to about 20/40 and has stayed there.

I am going to wait until they can do the reading correction surgery reliably then look into it again.

Huh?? This sounds more like "snake oil" to me. Report back after a couple of weeks to see if it's still working.

If your doctor is charging $1K to put in plugs, that is ridiculous. It took my opthamolgist no more than 30 seconds per eye to put in my plugs. He did say that it is a surgical procedure (per the govt, I think) even though it isn't really. This could be the reason for the high cost---insurance and all that. I'd recommend them for any pool player, though.

Have you tried an eyedrop called Systane? I found it after my second lasik surgery and it seems to coat the eyeball with a slick substance that doesn't interfere with seeing. Another one called Thera Tears feels just like your real tears, but isn't as effective at lubrication. I use it mostly for cleaning my eyes after being in smoky bars too long.

Also, in my case, it took about 3 1/2 months for my eyes to see correctly after my surgeries. How long's it been for you? Maybe time is what you need.

Oh yeah...drink lots of water!

Another thing...lean how to blink correctly. And close your eyes often and allow them to rest between innings. Staring at the table (during those 100 ball runouts! :D ) tends to dry out your eyes.

One more...Omega 3 fatty acids are great for the eyes and also blood numbers, and even joints. Beware of untested brands, though, as some have unsafe levels of mercury...a definite no no. If you're looking for a tested brand, I can lead you to one....pm me.

Also useful for getting rid of annoying people that wont leave you alone. If this doesn't make sense, just ask any old timer waitress or bartender. :p

Some carrot juice might do you good. Fresh it's loaded with Beta Carotene.

And lots of cigarettes....joking:p

Careful, it was a waitress that 'did it' in an episode of CSI not that long ago ...

True, but didn't it turn out that the guy died of lead poisoning from the leaded fuel used in the South American country that the guy's chocolate came from?

<way off topic>
I always wondered about that explanation now that I mention it. I read a number of articles in chemical engineering periodicals after lead was banned in fuel that said we ended up with something far worse than what we thought we were protecting ourselves from. The lead scare was due to all the lead based paints and old dishes and such that people (mostly children) were ingesting and getting lead poisoning. As I understood it the lead in fuel never reached any kind of vapor form, but was deposited on the road in very very small balls that of course were impregnated onto/into the road surfaces, but no danger to people unless you were out there eating off the road and licking the asphalt. What we ended up with was a bunch of artificial octane boosters now that the oil companies must supply. Lucky for them, they have them in abundance, because they are the waste products caused by various refining methods. Benzene, Tolulene, Xylene, etc are added to the fuel to boost the octane. These however are very toxic and can cause cancer in vapor form, so it's now the gas vapor (before being burned), is now very very hazardous to our health, our cars don't run as well, and to top it all off the oil/gas companies now supply all the ingredients, thus increasing their profit margin.

Sorry for the sidebar, I just have to get it out every few years.

Darned if I know. After noting that little tidbit at the next commercial I decided to go into the next room and practice a bit ... I guess drawing conclusions 15 minutes into a 1 hour show is a bit risky ... sometimes.

As far as I know, the only OTC eye-care supplements that have gone through proven clinical trials are Bausch and Lomb Ocuvite supplements, and they are available anyware. Not to say that what you are taking is ineffective, but be careful how much faith you put into unresearched supplements.

edit: My bad, there is plenty of research on TheraTears, and it turns out I know their inventor personally. Drop away.

Of ALL the vision related threads, I have NEVER seen you comment that they should be in the non-pool related items.
.

Please don't turn this into another one of your misguided attempts based on your inability to comprehend the written word.

I've never commented that other vision-related threads should be in the non-pool related forum because every one else brings up the laser surgery/contacts/dry eyes threads as it pertains to their game. That is, they make it pool related. Did you?

And I certainly was far from criticizing you for it. It's good information. But maybe it needed to be in the non-pool forums. That's all I was saying. As usual, you read to much into my posts, and not enough of my words.
