i like the 2 part epoxy hightower and atlas sells for the finish on my cues, as i DO NOT like spraying. mix equal parts and spread it on the cue as it solwly rotates, then hang, let it set overnight and a light sand and its ready to polish.
i hated having my lathe tied up waiting for it level out. so i found an old motor, bought a lathe bed, some belts and couple 4 step pullys from hightower. piece of plywood, couple 2 by 4 and a dab of paint, i had a drying station.
i was still having some problems with the finish not being real smooth. i thought i was having to do too much sanding. the epoxy instructions said it had a 20 min working time, so i was letting it rotate 20 min until it started to set up.
couple days ago i had a piece rotating and got busy with something else and it ran for over 45 min. the following morning the piece was as smooth as a babys butt. i did it again 45 min. this morning the dried piece was very smooth.
