Anyone else know people that dump matches during the season of the VNEA so that they can be in a lower bracket during the state tournament. Then they have to nerve to say how good they are. My opinion is that this is cheating and they should be banned from VNEA, but how do u prove it.

Manipulating handicaps and dumping matches is what spoils any league. Unfortunately some people will always try to beat the system and the thought of self integrity doesn't enter their minds.

Dumping and sandbagging.

What a legacy.

Something you'll be proud to tell the grandchildren.

i know guys that lose cheap sets and then ask for spots when playing for bigger cheese. i hear about it at the pool hall all the time, it makes me sick. it's not even big enough money to be proud of it's a discrass the small ammounts of money people are willing to sell their integrity for

I'm kinda split on this one....

Now don't get me wrong - I agree. Personally, I think sandbagging is cheating, and I think it sucks. When I play, I play to win and I play straight up always in competition.

But then I think about movies like The Husler and TCOM, two of my favorites. I mean, a hustle is basically cheating right. You either sandbag, trick, or steal money from your opponent. I think there was a post on here recently where people were sharing info about the past, some of the great players and personalities....and how they've put extra balls on the table and cheated in other ways.....but nobody really seemed to speak up about it being crappy or them being a theif???

Now I'm wondering - at what point is sandbagging/cheating inexcuseable, and at what point do you accept it? When do you break their thumbs, or when should it be allowed? I find myself split - I like the movies and almost accept it as OK, but in person, I'd feel cheated

What do you guys think?

I think the analogy Big Perm is trying to make here is kinda like any other sport. Take pro baseball for instance. You have players (A) that have an absolute love for the game that just happen to get paid a lot of money. Then you have the players (B) that are basically in it for the money. Players (A) would still play and love the game even if the money wasn't so generous, whereas players (B) would probably seek out other endeavors.
In pool, you are ALWAYS gonna have the money players and the fun/recreational players. They are, many times, gonna be intertwined into a league somewhere. Only the payoff these types of league money players are after is a trip to Vegas or a shot at the Regionals. Small stuff, I know. But, not every Major League ballplayer gets paid the same either!!!
We basically just have to learn to live with it or move on to something else. It ain't gonna change. The emphasis on winning is just too great in this country. It's beat into our heads beginning from our youth on throughout our lives. People, being greedy AND not wanting to lose, that don't have the necessary skills to succeed are simply prone to cheating.
Just my $.02.
