elderly neighbor brought this over to show me
one of his relatives found it in a dumpster in san francisco and sent it to him
tip & ferrule need a little tlc, which i'll do for old joe

he's not interested in selling it,
just curious as to the value? approx age?

I believe they're in the Blue Book, Brent. I don't have my copy at this time. I had a friend who collected them, had a couple dozen. He died a few years ago, don't know what became of his collection.

They made tons of them.

Not much value. The tip and ferrelle you put on has more value than the cue.

I had one just like it except mine had a brass joint. Sold at 2008 US Open for $250. I was told it was made in Portugal. Hit a ton.....lol.

Let me shed some light here...

This cue is a Sampaio Premier Series.

The cue is hand carved and it was made in the late 50's/early 60's.
That cue is dear to my heart since Mr. Sampaio is the only Portuguese cuemaker in the bluebook of cues (I'm portuguese as well). There were quite a few made, but not a ton. All cues were hand carved and had a quite a bit of mother of pearl in them. A Sampaio Premier Series cue in mint condition is worth about $800.00. Under rated cue, due to the amount of craftmanship, but it is what it is.
Mr. Sampaio not only made that series of cues as well he made a ton of house cues and probably the best 3 cushion heated billiard tables I've ever played on.
You do have a piece of history in your hands Brent.

I was gonna post something like this once. I got this cue out of the newspaper more than 10 years ago and the lady said her dad had it when she was a kid. I'll get some more pictures because it's hard to tell in this one but there is what looks like an eagle swooping down on something carved in the handle area.

Awesome cue. I got a buddy that went in a pawn shop
6 months ago and found a best up 4 point Schick pawn
Guy had no clue what he had my buddy bought it for $120
Took to bill to fully redo so all and all he just got a $5K Schick
For like $600 now that's a hit I gotta start checking out or pawn
Shops cause I live in mccomb ms only about 3 hrs from where bill
Lives lol I gotta start checking them out my buddy forreal found a needle
In a hay stack and did not know what it was so while he was looks at it he
Looked up bill schicks and bout fainted cue came with 2 ivory ferreted shafts
I have not seen it yet heard about it lol I post pic when I do label thread best

I agree with Ken that Sampaio cues do not have much current market value. A friend of mine owned one like this cue in the early 1970's. It played much better than its current value would suggest. If the shaft is straight, some simple clean-up (polish the joint and ferrule, clean the shaft, new tip) may be worth the effort.
