Moments ago I received an email stating that Discmakers cannot ship DVDs before Christmas. The delay is due to copy protection that is a part of the production. I was informed by my editor that the process would take 5 days but the copy protection process is 15 days.
Copy protection has always been a part of my order.

This is the first real hiccup in my timeline but It's out my domain. Nothing I can do but wait.

I am happy to reverse any orders if needed because of the extra waiting period.

This is my first time with this and all in all it has gone quite well and I am unhappy myself with the delay.

This delay put shipping off until late December or early January.

Stan:

Unless folks had purchased the DVDs as holiday gifts for someone else (which, in that case obviously, them not arriving by the holidays would put a huge kink in the gift plans), I don't think it'd be a major problem.

Good on you for the copy protection -- good move!

Looking forward to receiving mine when it's ready to ship,
-Sean

ok with me. Things happens, no big deal. Nice of you to let us know though.

Thanks for your understanding. My editor has assured me that he will prompt Discmakers to move as quickly as they can.

Stan, no offense, but 'copy protection' is a waste... you cannot stop it no matter what discmakers tells you.

Every dvd I have, the first thing I do is rip it to my computer and throw the dvd is a pile of junk. Not that I share them, I just find it easier to have everything on my computer and not a bunch of dvds.

It's not any problem for me. But I agree with Cleary. The "copy protection" is 100% worthless. I do the same thing he does and copy all my DVDs to a hard drive and the the actual DVD goes in the "never to be seen again" box unless my hard drive crashes.

If this is costing you extra then cut the fat. If someone wants to copy your DVD then the way to do it is available to the rankest amateurs in five miinutes of searching on Google.

These guys know what they're talking about. Modern software looks right past the copy protection. Save your time and money, and don't buy into this little trick that manufacturers use.

LOCKS protect you from basically honest people!

I am no expert on copying protection matter but it does offer limited advantages and I do believe it's better to have it than not.

just another one chiming in... copy protection is worthless and a waste of money. The only thing you're stopping is someone copying the VIDEO_TS folder directly to their hard drive using windows explorer.

Anyone that copies discs to their hard drive already has the necessary software to create a image, minus the encryption.

It's just another way for the company to make money, whatever their sales pitch is. Don't believe it for a minute.

If that's how you feel then do it. The best copy protection you can hope for is to put the FBI warning at the beginning of the playback, or a little video that tries to guilt trip the thieves into not copying your DVD.

Bruce is right, locks stop honest people who stop at a closed door anyway.

I was informed that those that want to bypass the normal mode of copying do so. There was no charge added for service as my pricing was already set. So, it was a no-brained to me when I made the choice.

I do appreciate the advice, though.

Basically, making a personal copy of a movie/cd ect is perfectly fine and legal. Distributing copies is not.

The best part of my 'digital' copies are I can put them on an iphone/ipad/laptop and work on things at the pool room rather than watching at home and hoping I remember it right.

That and its easier to organize my media.

Take your time Stan some of us have waited years for CTE so another few weeks won't hurt us, I am looking forward to it though. I'm also looking forward to a in person lesson when we can meet up sometime.--Leonard

I bet you are right, it would probably be easier to have a computer by the pool table to watch the DVD's on a monotor and try different shots instead of on the TV and DVD player.
