Well I am an Earl fan for life and hope he is chosen to be on the team, regardless of his antics he does perform and still wins. I think his character makes the event better with him there, it is a circus like atmosphere regardless and I cannot wait to be there in person to root USA on! Go Earl and do not forget to vote for him on Matchroom's website unless they put him in as there pick which is most likely. :grin:

Mosconi Cup

I'm all for winning the Mosconi Cup back from those those those Europeans. :grin:

I would like to hear Earl say he wants to win the Mosconi Cup and what it would take for the U.S. Team to win. His ideas are almost always unique perspectives and it is possible that he might have a good one or two.

From the entertainment perspective, I think until MatchRoom Sports, chooses otherwise, Earl is the man. No one attracts attention like Earl.

As to winning, there are those who argue, that he has one of the highest if not the highest performance ratings on any of the Mosconi Cup Teams.

Arguably, he is still a contender in any tournament he participates in.

And finally, as long as MatchRoom Sports says Earl is in, the rest of the U.S. Mosconi Cup Team should find a way to work with Earl. The Team Captain will have a lot to do with this. This is the only way the USA team has a chance to win.

Yea, lets let earl embarrass the U.S. yet again. I'd rather have less of a player that plays with respect then a great player that makes us look like sore losing jackasses.

oh, and earl becomes an average player when he's forced to play with his break cue because he threw a fit and smashed his playing cue.

As much as I have supported Earl in the past.. I think it's time for some new blood on team USA.. It certainly could not hurt to try it without him this year.. Flaming not necessary, this is just one mans opinion. :)

One of the things that matters most is that all of us realize that the Mosconi Cup is not a U.S. or a European entity, IT IS A MATCHROOM SPORTS BUSINESS and what we want plays very little into their business plans.

I am just happy as all get out that MatchRoom Sports continues to invest resources into the Mosconi Cup and hope that they will continue to run the Mosconi Cup AS A BUSINESS, and not a diplomatic or politically correct billiard entity.

i think earl brings excitement. although i love the other players on both teams...they're boring. even though many hate earl's character....at least his heart is beating.

My tickets directly from Matchroom Sports. Just like last time the MC was in Vegas. The same event that watched Earl miss straight in shots and generally play and act like a goof. It was priceless to see him try to get Ralf all excited without success.

The US team deserves the best we have as players. Earl MIGHT make a decent coach, if he could control himself....

Here's our team (vs Europe's) - unless there's somehow Corey &/or Oscar lose their huge BCA points lead that seem insurmountable to me:

Johnny Archer (MR pick)......... Darren Appleton
Earl Strickland (MR pick)......... Mike Immonen
Corey Deuel (#1 BCA)............ Ralf Souquet
Oscar Dominguez (#2 BCA)....... Thorsten Hohmann
Shane Van Boening (vote)...... Niels Feijen

I find it peculiar that Matchroom has changed it's timeline over and over on the US selection process. From 3 different articles - all still on their homepage - are 3 contradictions:

August 6: Players 1 & 2 will be announced at the close of the US Open, while players 3 & 4 will be announced in September. Players 3 & 4 will be selected by Matchroom Sport.


Oct 23: With the US Open set to conclude on Saturday, the next three American players will be named early next week.


Oct 28: Johnny Archer is the only American to be picked so far with three more players to be named shortly. They will be the number one and two players at the top of the BCA Points List as well as one wild card pick.

Regardless of what Matchroom does to select our players, and although I may bit&h and moan here and there, I AM thankful for them putting this great event on. I look forward to it! Europe looks tough and the line will surely favor them IMO.

I really don't get ....

why Anyone wants to watch poor behavior and/or reward it. I sure don't want anyone representing my country to dump...EVER....before the last ball on the table drops. I like to watch a battle, until they can't lift their arms.

Johnny Mac. behaved badly in tennis, long ago, but I NEVER saw him tank.
If behaving badly lights a fire, then so be it.... but if it is just a precursor to a reason to lose, and tanking the match like I've seen too many times...then give the spot to someone who cares.

I don't know what PC has to do with this....... but this is a TEAM event.....let's put out the best TEAM... I hope Matchroom agrees. If I want to see a tantrum, I can just take my daughter's toys away.

It's the same reason we have RubberNecking on the Highway and why Phil Helmuth is allowed to act the way he does in the WSOP. People love to watch train-wrecks. How else do you explain the Suedo-Celebrities we have: Paris, Lohan, Kardashians, Osbournes, etc. etc.

I think it's definitely for a time to change. I have all the respect for Earl's game and his stroke in unbelievable. But I think we are all confusing his antics with what is really needed to win, and that is "HEART".

I'll take 5 players that can play with HEART over these antics anyday!

Give me Bartram, Oscar, Archer, Shane and Corey! PLEASE!

I like your picks.... and there's a lot more to mix and match.... Hatch, Moore, Mills, Morris.... I'd be happy with a mix of any of them. I would really like to see Rodney as captain of a team... he's got fire, firepower, and calm all rolled into one!

Whoever makes the final pick, I hope they make a TEAM!!!

Earl had a pretty good showing in the US Open. As did Archer, Morris, SVB, Deuel and I hate to say it, Charlie Williams. But the best American player there was Donnie Mills, so how can you justify not putting him on the team?

Would love to see this team. Specially after the drubbing that Donnie put on Appleton at the Open.
