Earl in the booth

I liked Earl's style of commentary, my all time favorite is Billy I. I learned a lot from his accu stats commentary. I guess I am trying to learn when I am watching pool.

It's was ''so'' refreshing to have someone in the booth that knows very little about the match (like 99% of the public viewers), but asks or states the dumb questions to help educate the audience and themselves.

yer dreaming if you think the public is watching pool streams ATM.

I'd rather have 60% stories and chat between the commentators while there is nothing special going on at the table. Lots of fun things were revealed in commentary about gambling matches, stories about players, etc...

Most people that watch pool know when they are going to hit a low right spin shot 2 rails for shape, we don't need someone telling us that they are about to do that.

I believe they call it filler. there's a huge difference in road stories and fluff. 95% of streamers use 50 year old pool cliches.. that won't cut it with the cool kids.
<you need pool to be cool.....i'm 53 BTW>

Earl said WAY more than low left here, follow here, stop, etc! ..he points out how to shoot the shot with a different route and why it's easier.

I've watched hundreds of hours of pool and never heard anyone get close to the knowledge and comfort Earl has at the mic.

YMMV

* i appreciate ALL the streamers no matter what you may think of my observations!

Very true, but for our industry to Not go after the working public and just go after us pool players, there never gonna get outta the garage. If Mosconi was the highest paid athlete in the World during his prime years there must be a reason. Since pool is one of the few competitions that's been around since the fourteen hundreds, there must be a reason.
I'm just hoping a player like Jason Shaw and SVB are able to show their incredible skills to someone other than pool players is all. Matchroom sports is tapping into a market that's NOT all hard core ezzzzzzzzzzz, that's a good thing. I haven't seen a university that has a course in skateboarding or synchronized swimming yet, wonder why :grin-square:

I just watched the 25th Annual Ocean State 9-ball final on youtube between Dechaine and Shaw. Around the fourth game or so Earl started doing commentary with Joe Tucker. I really liked hearing what he had to say and how he said it. Putting it out there in case people haven't heard him commentate.

Earl starts right around 13:10 into the match

Thank you so much for bringing this up. :)

That was the most insightful pool commentary I've ever heard. Earl is a complete natural in the booth.

There's no questioning his passion for the game.

I enjoy most commentators. I'm not that picky. Its nice when they bring a guest into the booth for a couple games also. Seems to change up the flow. There's plenty of people to choose from at these matches. I do like the old stories but in moderation. Earl was fun to listen to, Id like to hear more. Anyway I get my haircut at a girls house. Her husband works nights so he's home when I'm there. Back when pool was on tv all the time he always had it on. He's not a player but liked to watch. I guess there are people out there who like watching but don't play. As a side note, I just switched from a couple years of OB1 to OB2 and am lovin it.

Very good commentary by Earl until he started talking about the rack and checking it. In my opinion, he is just plain willfully ignorant about the rack. It's no more cheating to check the rack than it is cheating to see if a ball will pass another ball. By his theory, to carry it all the way out, if balls are close, and you aren't immediately sure if it goes or not, you should just smack it and see what happens.

That was some excellent stuff...

you guys have any more great commentary matches where we really learn stuff... instead of talking about what they had for lunch etc..

I watch videos to learn and that was one of the good ones..

thanks..
