Please do not think I am crazy, but I have a curious question. What would be the line on Earl against the field at the US Open?

cheers-----------BW

id love to know how someone who comes up on a line like that calcualtes it. Im thinking youd have to look at the field of players and all the people we are basically even playing earl (efren, bustamante, shane, etc etc).....so like a field of 256 and probably a good 60 or 70 of them are even......so at least 70 to 1 and then there must be some type of factor they use for any one person taking off a tourney of that size.....im just thinking out loud here, like i said id love to know how its calculated for real

It's calculated by someone or a group that make the line in favor of who they are going to bet on. Johnnyt:D

although he appears to be shooting nicely, i would venture to guess that he doesn't make it to the final twelve - if he does, someone will take him out by mental warfare. i can't wait to get there and take in some of the matches.

If the line-maker knows what he's doing and can expect sufficient volume, the line will be set so as to attract equal action on both sides. The bookie then cinches a win by claiming the "vig" no matter who wins; Bill Incardona, for instance, used to charge 120-100 for a typical match. A pre-tournament line would be considerably harder to establish, but that's what he'd strive for: enough action on AND against Earl so that he profits no matter what. GF

I'm guessing that he'll come in as a 26-30 to 1.

I would LOVE if Earl won another major. As it stands, nobody is ever going to catch him even if he does NOT win another one. But it would be so sweet to add another layer to his legacy...
